Academy Player definition

Academy Player means a male player (other than an Amateur Player or a Trialist) who is in an age group between Under 9 and Under 21 and who is registered for and who is coached by or plays football for or at a Club which operates an Academy pursuant to the Professional Game Youth Development Rules, save for a player who:

Academy Player means any Player who, as at 1 September 2019, is between 16 and 24 years of age (inclusive) and whose total Salary for the Salary Cap Year 2019-20 or any previous Salary Cap Year does not exceed or has not exceeded £30,000 at that Club. For the avoidance of doubt, if total Salary paid to an Academy Player is, in any Salary Cap Year, in excess of£30,000, the Academy Player shall be treated as a Senior Player for the purposes of the Regulations. With effect from 1 July 2019, where any Player of a Club ceases to be an Academy Player of that Club and becomes a Senior Player of that Club, or where any Player of a Club was first employed by that Club as a Senior Player, in either case that Player will at all times be treated as a Senior Player of that Club and shall not at any stage be capable of being or becoming an Academy Player of that Club;

Academy Player means a cricketer registered on a Regional Host’s Academy Programme.

• A Club Academy Player may be provided with Football Academy Benefits by or on behalf of the Club up to a maximum value of $25,000 per Football Year, unless otherwise approved by the AFL.

• All payments made by a Club to a Club Academy Player in its Club Academy are excluded as Football Payments for the purposes of calculating a Club’s Total Player Payments.

• If an Academy Player or young Professional under the age of 18 joins another club on trial, work experience or a Football League Youth Loan the Academy will seek written parental consent (additional to the standard consent sought at the start of every season) prior to the activity taking place.

• All Clubs and Players must (and ensure those acting on their behalf) comply with the compensation regulations set out in Schedule 4 pertaining to Academy Player Compensation.

• Subject to Rule 14.4(d), a Club may include a Club Academy Player on its Primary List or Rookie List if he has been domiciled in the Club’s Academy Region for a period of 5 continuous years immediately prior to attaining draft eligibility age, unless otherwise approved by the AFL.
