Family and Medical Leave Act definition

Family and Medical Leave Act means the federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, Pub.L. 103-3, 29 U.S.C. section 2601 et seq.
Family and Medical Leave Act or "FMLA" means the federal law set forth in 29 U.S.C. 28.
Family and Medical Leave Act. (FMLA) means leave may be taken for any of the following reasons:

  • Nothing in this Section 3(b) shall be construed to waive the Executive’s rights, if any, under existing law including, without limitation, the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, 29 U.S.C. §2601 et seq.

  • This definition shall be interpreted and applied consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and other applicable law.

  • It is the intent of the parties that the provisions and administration of this Article be in compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, the California Family Rights Act of 1993, and the Pregnancy Disability Leave provisions of the California Fair Employment and Housing Act.

  • The purpose of this policy is to provide for family and medical leave to school district employees in accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) and also with parenting leave under state law.

  • In accordance with the final Department of Labor Regulations, which became effective January 16, 2009, and govern the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, any use of accrued compensatory time off under this Section shall be counted against the employee’s annual family and medical leave entitlement.

For a serious health condition of the employee which prevents him or her from being able to perform the essential functions of his or her position. This includes pregnancy, childbirth or a related medical condition, which are considered serious health conditions under FMLA.
