Appraising the Engineering Aspects of Scheme Designs Sample Clauses

Appraising the Engineering Aspects of Scheme Designs. The overriding requirements of the airport engineering appraisal are to: • To prepare robust cost plans for proposed airport schemes, through the identification of high level engineering and maintenance costs. • Inform the evolving airport masterplans through an overview of the requirements, constraints and impacts with respect to the siting and layout of the proposed new airport(s) or existing airport extensions. • To assess and progress understanding of the wider engineering requirements of servicing and facilitating the operational airport. • To assist the separately appointed environmental and sustainability consultants in seeping and undertaking relevant assessments. It is expected that bidders will be able to consider and assess engineering issues in at least the following areas: o Energy and utilities o Gee-environmental (including flood risk) o Surface development works (including both onsite and offsite development and infrastructure) o Surface access In general, Potential Providers should note that 'on-site' works and issues, such as those detailed in the first three strategies, may be required to be understood to a greater degree of development than the 'off-site' works and issues (such as, for example, any potential new surface access infrastructure required). In relation to energy and utilities Potential Providers should be able to develop, review and assess proposals in the following areas: • Energy and utility demands anticipated for any new proposal, including likely reinforcement required to existing local and regional supplies. • Availability of energy and utilities capacity, including any requirements and/or options for routing/re-routing services to serve airport developments. • Fail-safe and emergency systems. • Opportunities for sustainable energy generation and the associated impacts. • Other onsite utilities/services infrastructure and development opportunities. In relation to gee-environmental and flood risk issues Potential Providers should be able to develop, review and assess proposals in the following areas: • Ground conditions assessment, comprising consideration of existing and previous land uses. It is intended this will be informed by desk study to determine what physical constraints and requirements exist or are likely to exist at the proposal sites, and what further investigation and information is required. • Ground decontamination, including requirements and options for eliminating any potential for significant environm...
