Civic Engagement. The Board recognizes the benefits accorded the District from Superintendent’s active involvement in community affairs and civic organizations, and as a result, shall pay the membership dues and expenses associated with membership in up to three civic organizations of her choosing in Chatham County, which dues and expenses will not exceed Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) collectively in an annual period unless approved by the Board President.

Civic Engagement. In Many 2018 we launched the Institute Volunteer+ database, an innovative approach to supporting the community and to promoting volunteering among staff and students. This initiative supports the Institute’s Annual Volunteering Fair held in October of each year and is designed to capture the number of hours spent volunteering by students and staff. We set a target of 10,000 hours to be achieved by end of September 2018 and the number of hours as of July 4th was 9,467. Our target is to increase the number of hours volunteered from 9,467 to 13,000 by 2020/21. This initiative fits in with our Strategic Plan objectives and with ISSE metrics related to volunteering/civic engagement. During the last Performance Compact period, we increased the number of programmes/activities with credits available for volunteering/active citizenship to five. With this new initiative, all students can receive recognition for volunteering. Gold, silver and bronze digital badges will be awarded on the basis of hours volunteered.
Civic Engagement. The temporary lead to the Civic Engagement is FirstFollowers. The agency will run a series of community workshops involving local practitioners and nationally known experts to explore the successes and failures of anti-violence initiatives in other places such as: Richmond CA, Baltimore, and Chicago. The Civic Engagement pillar will also provide the knowledge of such programs and strategically share it through workshops and popular education efforts for government officials, service providers and the impacted population. Research projects on community violence and cultural competence as they apply to the local community will be shared with government, faith-based organizations, and the community. In addition, the Civic Engagement Pillar will produce a series of conversations and cultural events that showcase local talent dedicated to ending violence.
