CLASS AND COURSE ASSIGNMENT. ‌ The instructional assignment of a faculty member should be made in his/her field of competence. There are common instructional components in each discipline that all faculty should be able to teach. Therefore, the need for change of assignment within his/her field for the purpose of providing better service and a higher quality program is acknowledged. Instructional assignments shall be based on a consideration of the needs of students (including the need to make the curriculum available throughout the day and evening), the continued necessity for revitalization and improvement of the instructional program, academic qualifications and expertise of the faculty and, where practical, faculty preference. Instructional assignments shall not be made arbitrarily, capriciously, or with the intent or effect of discriminating against any faculty member. The duties and duration of release time granted shall be reported in writing to the faculty member and, upon request, to the local union. Release time for faculty shall be calculated in credits and recorded as faculty member teaching load. A faculty member shall not be required to teach both evening and early morning classes unless the faculty member concurs with this kind of assignment.
CLASS AND COURSE ASSIGNMENT. ‌ The assignment to courses and the expression of the faculty members' preferences in the scheduling thereof shall be accomplished by the college chair. Changes in a college's tentative schedule by the administration shall be made only in consultation with the college chair and the faculty member. Tentative course schedules for the ensuing academic term shall be published at least four (4) weeks prior to the commencement of that semester. Changes in the college's schedule shall be made only in consultation with the college chair, and the affected faculty member in the interest of arriving at the best solution for all concerned.
