Duration of Leave. Employees eligible for parental leave may take this leave beginning not later than 52 weeks of the child being born or coming into care. Unless otherwise mutually agreed females on pregnancy leave wishing to take a parental leave must commence parental leave immediately following the end of the pregnancy leave unless the child has not come into custody, care and control of the parent for the first time. The duration of this leave is up to 35 weeks. Those employees who do not take pregnancy leave and all other new parents can take up to 37 weeks of parental leave. Employees who wish to take this leave must give the Company two weeks’ notice in writing prior to the date the leave would begin and four weeks notice of the date the leave will end if they wish to terminate the leave prior to 35 or 37 weeks following the date the leave commenced. An employee, who takes a pregnancy leave followed by a parental leave as per Item 11.2 and 11.5 may elect to have the total leave extended up to 56 weeks.
