Education and Education Leaves Sample Clauses

Education and Education Leaves. (a) Where employees are offered an opportunity by the Employer to take a course(s) to upgrade or acquire new qualifications or credentials, and the employee accepts such offer, the Employer shall pay the cost of tuition and materials associated with such courses. (Examples of such course are CARES, PAC, DIMENTIABILITY). (b) If the Employee indeed accepts the offer and opportunity that is referred to in (a) above, and is required to attend such course during her regular scheduled hours, she shall not lose her regular pay for the time lost from her regular scheduled hours because of such attendance and provided that the employee successfully completes the course. (c) When the Employer exercises its discretion to offer an employee to take a course, the Employer's obligation to make the payments under (a) and (b) above are conditional upon the employee successfully completing the course and remaining in the employ of the Employer for 6 full consecutive calendar months immediately following the conclusion of the course. (d) In the event that an employee completes a course and receives payment for time that is lost in order to attend a course referred to in (a) above, and terminates employment before the completion of the six (6) month period referred to above, the employee will be responsible for repaying the cost of the course to the Employer. It is understood that repayment of the cost of the course to the Employer will be achieved by means of the Employer deducting the appropriate amounts from the employee’s final wage entitlements in order to recover the cost of the course from the employee. Cost of the course and the amount of the repayment will be pro-rated based upon the amount of time that the employee was employed during the aforementioned six (6) month period. For greater clarity and by way of example, an employee whose employment terminates three (3) months after completing a course will be responsible for reimbursing the Employer for 50% of the cost of the course. (e) Employees will receive their regular pay when it is mandatory to be at in- service/general staff meetings which have been scheduled by the Employer. Such meetings shall be paid at regular time only and only for the period of the attendance at the in-service/general staff and shall not count as time worked for the purpose of calculating overtime eligibility.
