Faculty Responsibility. As set forth more specifically in other sections of this Agreement and by long-standing practice at Monroe Community College, the Faculty through the appropriate faculty committee or department and consistent with the responsibilities vested in the President and the Board, has primary but not sole responsibility for recommending curriculum, subject matter, methods of instruction, research, faculty status, requirements of and authorization for granting degrees.
Faculty Responsibility. Prior to being granted a sabbatical leave, a faculty member shall enter into a written agreement with the COMMITTEE that such faculty member shall, immediately upon completion of such sabbatical leave, return to active service for the COMMITTEE for a period equal to twice the length of such sabbatical leave and that, in default of completing such service, such faculty member shall refund to the COMMITTEE such proportion of the sabbatical leave pay received as the amount of service not actually rendered, as agreed, bears to the whole amount of service agreed to be rendered. No refund shall be required for such period that such faculty member is prevented from rendering the amount of service as agreed because of such faculty member's death, long-term illness, permanent physical or mental disability, or reduction in faculty.
