Common use of Funeral Leave/Bereavement Leave Clause in Contracts

Funeral Leave/Bereavement Leave. Section 27.1. If a death occurs among members of an employee's immediate family, the employee shall be granted three (3) days paid funeral leave/bereavement leave without loss of pay, benefits, days off, holidays or vacation time. Immediate family for this section holds the same definition as in Article 24 of this Agreement in addition to include: child-in-law, sibling, step-sibling, sibling-in-law, grandparent-in-law, aunt-in- law, uncle-in-law, other family member residing with or a dependent of the employee, and significant other living with the employee. Funeral leave may be extended at the discretion of the Chief of Police, based on individual circumstances. Any granted extension of funeral leave/bereavement leave beyond the original three (3) paid days shall be charged to the employee's sick leave.
