Inmate Handbook. The UDOC will effectively communicate the contents of the Inmate Orientation Video and the Inmate Handbook and similar publications to all inmates who have a hearing disability, including those for whom written language is not an effective means of communication.The UDOC may choose to meet this obligation by providing a video of a qualified interpreter signing the contents of the Inmate Orientation Video and/or Handbook, along with appropriate technology for viewing, or by providing a qualified interpreter who will read and interpret the contents of the Inmate Handbook to the inmate who has a hearing disability.While this Agreement is in effect, the UDOC will include in all future printings of its Inmate Handbook and all similar publications a statement to the following effect: To ensure effective communication with inmates who have a hearing disability, the Utah Department of Corrections will provide appropriate auxiliary aids and services free of charge, which may include: qualified sign language interpreters and oral transliterators, TTYs, videophones, note-takers, computer-assisted real time transcription services, written materials, telephone handset amplifiers, assistive listening devices and systems, telephones compatible with hearing aids, closed caption decoders or TVs with built-in captioning, and open and closed captioning of Utah Department of Corrections’ programs. Utah State law specifically allows the Utah Department of Corrections to charge a copayment for medical services and devices for inmates. However, an inmate may not be denied medical treatment or medical devices, such as hearing aids necessary for effective communication, on the grounds that the inmate is indigent.

Inmate Handbook. The ACSO will include in all future printings of its Inmate Handbook and all similar publications a statement to the following effect: To ensure effective communication with inmates and their visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing, the Sheriff’s Office will provide appropriate auxiliary aids and services free of charge, such as: qualified sign language interpreters and oral transliterators, TTY's, notetakers, computer-assisted real time transcription services, written materials, telephone handset amplifiers, assistive listening devices and systems, telephones compatible with hearing aids, closed caption decoders or TVs with built-in captioning, and open and closed captioning of Sheriff’s Department programs. Inmate Handbook. Within thirty (30) days of the effective date of the Agreement, South Dakota Department of Corrections will effectively communicate the contents of the Inmate Handbook and similar publications to all inmates who are deaf or hard of hearing, including those for whom written language is not an effective means of communication. South Dakota Department of Corrections may choose to meet this obligation by providing a video of a qualified interpreter signing the contents of the Inmate Handbook, along with appropriate technology for viewing, or by providing a qualified interpreter who will read and interpret the contents of the Inmate Handbook to the inmate who is deaf or hard of hearing. South Dakota Department of Corrections will include in all future printings of its Inmate Handbook and all similar publications a statement to the following effect: To ensure effective communication with inmates who are deaf, hard of hearing, or who have a speech disability, South Dakota Department of Corrections will provide appropriate auxiliary aids and services free of charge, such as: qualified sign language interpreters and oral transliterators, TTYs, videophones, note-takers, computer-assisted real time transcription services, written materials, telephone handset amplifiers, assistive listening devices and systems, telephones compatible with hearing aids, closed caption decoders or TVs with built-in captioning, and open and closed captioning of South Dakota Department of Corrections's programs.
Inmate Handbook a. DOC shall publish in the Inmate Handbook the following:
i. the process for reporting SA;
ii. that retaliation for reporting SA is prohibited;
iii. that calls to the toll free number in the inmate orientation manual for reporting SA may be made without entering an SBI# and will go to DOC Internal Affairs;
iv. the procedures for instituting grievances and appealing from adverse grievance decisions;
v. how to report sexual abuse on behalf of an inmate;
vi. the process to be followed in determining whether pre-trial inmates have committed infractions of BWCI rules, and the procedural rights of the pre-trial population in that process; [MR 25]
vii. the process by which an inmate may appeal a 24 hour Loss of All Privileges; [MR 25] viii. the process by which inmates are given an opportunity to make telephone calls to family and friends for the purpose of getting money placed in their accounts. [MR 16] ix. an explanation of which prohibited conduct is a Class I infraction and which is a Class II infraction. [MR 25] x. the procedure by which inmates may request, and if appropriate obtain, a change of housing location, because of a reasonable fear of SA or other harm. [MR 20]
b. The updated Handbook shall be promptly distributed it to all inmates. [MR 20] LEP persons who cannot read English but can read another language shall receive a copy of the Inmate Handbook written in a language they can read, if such a version has been published. [PP 5]
Inmate Handbook a. Within thirty (30) days of the date Plaintiffs sign this Agreement and the Sheriff receives executed W-9 forms from each of the Plaintiffs, the Sheriff will modify its Inmate Handbook to inform deaf inmates of their rights under the ADA. The modifications that will be made to the Inmate Handbook are set forth in Exhibit C.
b. Within sixty (60) days after revisions to the Inmate Handbook are agreed upon and made, the Sheriff will develop a video of a qualified sign language interpreter interpreting the entire Inmate Handbook which will be shown to deaf inmates as soon as is practicable after the intake process and may be made available for review again to the deaf inmate as soon as is practicable after the deaf inmate requests to review it again. The process for requesting additional review of the video shall be explained in the video and a method of requesting review of the video appropriate to the needs of the deaf individual shall be made available to the deaf inmate.
Inmate Handbook. At the earliest reasonable time, the ACSO will effectively communicate the contents of the Inmate Handbook and similar publications to all inmates who are deaf or hard of hearing, including those for whom written English is not an effective means of communication. The ACSO may choose to meet this obligation by providing a video of a qualified interpreter signing the contents of the Inmate Handbook, along with appropriate technology for viewing, or by providing a qualified interpreter who will read and interpret the contents of the Inmate Handbook to the person who is deaf or hard of hearing. At the request of an inmate who is deaf or hard of hearing, the ACSO will provide that inmate with the opportunity to meet with an ACSO staff member and a qualified interpreter to ask any questions regarding the Inmate Handbook and any other written materials that have been provided to inmates.
Inmate Handbook. 21. Inmates shall receive an inmate handbook upon arrival summarizing policies applicable to them including, but not limited to: 1) Jail rules, 2) visitation and exercise policies, 3) a description of the process for obtaining bond and an attorney, 4) a description of the disciplinary procedure, 5) an explanation regarding how to access sick call, medications, and emergency assistance, and 6) a list of all legal materials available to inmates.
Inmate Handbook. The Jail shall include in all future printings of its Inmate Handbook (or equivalent) and all similar publications a statement to the following effect: To ensure effective communication with inmates and their visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing, we provide appropriate auxiliary aids and services free of charge, such as: sign language and oral interpreters, TTY's, written materials, telephones compatible with hearing aids, closed caption decoders, and closed captioning of Jail programs. Please ask for assistance, or contact the Auxiliary Aids and Service Coordinator at ____________________ (voice or TTY), room ___________________."
Inmate Handbook. At the earliest reasonable time, the CVRJ staff will effectively communicate the contents of the Inmate Handbook and similar publications to all inmates who are deaf or hard of hearing, including those for whom written English is not an effective means of communication. CVRJ staff will provide that inmate with the opportunity to meet with a staff member and a qualified interpreter to explain the Inmate Handbook and ask any questions regarding the Inmate Handbook and any other written materials that have been provided to inmates.
