Leave of Absence for Public Duties. (a) The employer recognizes the right of an employee to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon written request, the Employer shall allow a leave of absence without pay and continued access to benefits in accordance with the Benefits Article, so that the employee may be a candidate in Federal, Provincial, or Municipal elections. (b) An employee who is elected to public office shall be allowed a leave of absence without pay during his/her first term of office. Following the first term, the employee shall be required to apply to the Board for an extension of the leave.
