Common use of Maternity/Paternity or Adoption Leave Clause in Contracts

Maternity/Paternity or Adoption Leave. The employee shall be entitled to take a leave of absence for childbirth or adoption for the period of 60 workdays in the school year. Upon the employees return he/she would be reinstated in a same or comparable position to that held when the leave was granted. 1) An employee requesting maternity/paternity or adoption leave shall give written notice to the District at least thirty (30) days prior to commencement of said leave. 2) The employee shall also notify the Superintendent’s office or designee of the approximate time that the employee expects to return to work within thirty (30) days after the childbirth, and shall inform the District of the specific day when the employee will return. 3) The employee is entitled to use accrued personal leave and sick leave as provided for hereinabove. Any extension of maternity leave beyond the period needed for childbearing and recovery shall be granted under Leave of Absence. For more specific information see the Board of Directors’ Policy.
