Common use of Meal and Rest Periods Clause in Contracts

Meal and Rest Periods. All employees shall receive an unpaid meal period of at least one-half (½) hour during each normal workday. Meal periods shall occur as near the middle of the shift as is practical. Employees required by the supervisor to remain in the working area during their meal period shall be compensated for such time at the appropriate rate of pay. All employees shall be allowed three (3) paid rest periods of fifteen (15) minutes each during each shift of twelve (12) hours or more duration. Rest periods may be taken on an intermittent basis. Employees who are not released for rest periods after requesting release from the supervisor or designee shall be paid for the missed rest period at the employee’s regular rate of pay. The employee shall have the obligation of requesting relief on a timely basis.
