NATURAL HISTORY Sample Clauses

NATURAL HISTORY. The xxxxxx is one of the larger members of the weasel family (Mustelidae) and occurs exclusively in the boreal and temperate forests of North America. It is dark brown in coloration, and has a long tail, short rounded ears, short legs, and a low-to-the-ground appearance. Females are substantially smaller than males and typically weigh 2.0 to 3.0 kg (4.4-6.6 lb) and measure 70 to 95 cm (28-37 in) in total length, whereas males typically weigh 3.5 to 5.5 kg (7.7-12.1 lb) and measure 90-120 cm (36-47 in) total length (Xxxxxx 1993, Xxxxxxx et al. 2010). The mating season for fishers occurs from late March to early May, when males leave established home ranges to search for reproductive females. Pregnant females can give birth to 1-4 kits from late March to early May and typically mate with a male within 10 days after giving birth. Females exhibit delayed implantation of fertilized eggs, where the development of fertilized eggs is suspended until the start of a 32-day gestation period that can begin as soon as February or as late as April. Birthing dens are always in cavities in live trees or snags (Xxxxx et al. 2012); however, females may subsequently move kits to other den structures including cavities in snags or down logs, or to log piles or ground xxxxxxx. Females are responsible for raising kits and they nurse kits until they are approximately 10-weeks old (~ late May). At about 4 months of age (~ late July), kits are more mobile and can travel with their mother. At around 7 months of age (~late October), kits are likely to be independent of their mother but are likely to occupy their mother’s home range until they disperse at about 10 months of age (~ late January). With the exception of breeding males during the breeding season (March to May), fishers typically occupy a home range. Xxxxxx home ranges are large in comparison to other mid-sized carnivores and are dominated by forested habitats. Females commonly use smaller home ranges than males (Lofroth et al. 2010). Mean home range sizes of reintroduced fishers on the Olympic Peninsula were 63.5 km2 (95% CI = 45.8-81.1) for females and 128.3 km2 (95% CI = 49.9-238.7) for males (Xxxxx 2014). Females are considered adults when they are 1-year-olds because a substantial percentage of these females can become pregnant near their first birthday. Consequently, females can give birth to their first litter at the age of 2. Not all adult females give birth to kits each year. Males are considered adults once th...

NATURAL HISTORY. What is currently held The natural history collection includes botanical, geological and zoological material and contains over 500,000 specimens. There are around 1,500 type specimens. As a whole the natural history collection is of national importance but within it there are individual collections of international standing. It also contains material of historical significance. The botany collection comprises a comprehensive coverage of British flowering plants, with most lower plant groups covered on a Scottish basis. There are important collections of algae, lichens and mosses. The exotic plant collections broaden the coverage of the major plant groups and several have connections to early historical explorations. The geology collection contains fossils, minerals and rocks. There are large and important collections of Scottish fossils. Carboniferous invertebrates are particularly important and well represented but there are also significant collections of lower Palaeozoic graptolites, Silurian arthropods, Devonian fish, Quaternary invertebrates and fossil plants. The minerals are worldwide in scope with some historical material. In zoology, the vertebrate collections are strong in Scottish marine (deep-water) fish, foreign amphibians and reptiles, birds and their eggs (world-wide but with emphasis on Palaearctic) and world-wide mammals, including rare and endangered species. The major strengths of the invertebrate collections are the molluscs (especially the X. Xxxx and X.X. Xxxxx collections) and the insects (especially X.X. Xxxxxx collection of European moths and butterflies). There are several other significant invertebrate groups. Proposed Additions: To develop the botany, geology and zoology collections by acquiring objects of significance or importance that complement and extend the existing strengths of the current holdings. CSGwill continue to illustrate the natural history of Scotland with particular emphasis on the west of Scotland and the Glasgow area. The aim is to maintain and update the systematic collections relating to all areas of Scotland’s natural history for the purposes of display, reference, education, handling and loans. CSGwill also collect non-Scottish natural history material on behalf of the Council but only if required for specific display, education or comparative purposes. An emphasis will be given to collecting material which illustrates the principles of natural history or which highlights current environmental changes or ...
NATURAL HISTORY. Information regarding the natural history, biology and behavior of coyotes is available on this center's web site at xxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx along with many other web sites. The easiest access to this data, with any search engine, is by using the key words "canis latrans". You should expect to experience slight variations among the information provided by different sites particularly in the areas of nutritional habits, dispersal behavior and general behavior. This is a direct result of geographical differences along with variances in species population density in the study areas from which the data was gleaned. However, these variations are not particularly germane to the work performed by rehabilitators. It is strongly recommended that anyone considering the rehabilitation of coyotes conduct some research in order to better understand the nature of this species.

  • Health Screening The Contractor shall conduct a Health Needs Screen (HNS) for new members that enroll in the Contractor’s plan. The HNS will be used to identify the member’s physical and/or behavioral health care needs, special health care needs, as well as the need for disease management, care management and/or case management services set forth in Section 3.8. The HNS may be conducted in person, by phone, online or by mail. The Contractor shall use the standard health screening tool developed by OMPP, i.e., the Health Needs Screening Tool, but is permitted to supplement the OMPP Health Needs Screening Tool with additional questions developed by the Contractor. Any additions to the OMPP Health Needs Screening Tool shall be approved by OMPP. The HNS shall be conducted within ninety (90) calendar days of the Contractor’s receipt of a new member’s fully eligible file from the State. The Contractor is encouraged to conduct the HNS at the same time it assists the member in making a PMP selection. The Contractor shall also be required to conduct a subsequent health screening or comprehensive health assessment if a member’s health care status is determined to have changed since the original screening, such as evidence of overutilization of health care services as identified through such methods as claims review. Non-clinical staff may conduct the HNS. The results of the HNS shall be transferred to OMPP in the form and manner set forth by OMPP. As part of this contract, the Contractor shall not be required to conduct HNS for members enrolled in the Contractor’s plan prior to January 1, 2017 unless a change in the member’s health care status indicates the need to conduct a health screening. For purposes of the HNS requirement, new members are defined as members that have not been enrolled in the Contractor’s plan in the previous twelve (12) months. Data from the HNS or NOP form, current medications and self-reported medical conditions will be used to develop stratification levels for members in Hoosier Healthwise. The Contractor may use its own proprietary stratification methodology to determine which members should be referred to specific care coordination services ranging from disease management to complex case management. OMPP shall apply its own stratification methodology which may, in future years, be used to link stratification level to the per member per month capitation rate. The initial HNS shall be followed by a detailed Comprehensive Health Assessment Tool (CHAT) by a health care professional when a member is identified through the HNS as having a special health care need, as set forth in Section 4.2.4, or when there is a need to follow up on problem areas found in the initial HNS. The detailed CHAT may include, but is not limited to, discussion with the member, a review of the member’s claims history and/or contact with the member’s family or health care providers. These interactions shall be documented and shall be available for review by OMPP. The Contractor shall keep up-to-date records of all members found to have special health care needs based on the initial screening, including documentation of the follow-up detailed CHAT and contacts with the member, their family or health care providers.
