Operation of Classes Sample Clauses

Operation of Classes. The maximum class size for BEST, Pre-voc and Mets classes shall be 12. For regular Vo-Tec classes, when class enrollment is greater than 17 and less than 21 students and consists of 25% or more of special education students, and upon the request of the classroom teacher, the BOCES administration will take into consideration the number of special education students enrolled in the class and make a determination whether or not a teaching assistant or aide should be assigned. For regular Vo-Tec classes, when there are 21 or more students, a teaching assistant or teacher aide will be assigned upon the request of the teacher. If enrollment were known prior to September 1, and it was projected to be above 20 students, a teaching assistant or teacher aide would be added. Any time there are over 20 students in a class, a teaching assistant or teacher aide would be added and remain in the class for the rest of the semester. The assignment would be reviewed the second semester. To the extent that a teacher aide is assigned, the duties of such employees will be limited to the duties allowed to be performed by teacher aides pursuant to the Commissioner's regulations. All vocational programs designed primarily for Special Education students will be assigned a teaching assistant or teacher aide (e.g. Mets, BEST, work study, school-to-work transition, etc.) Teachers will not be required to perform cafeteria duties and, except in unusual situations, bus duties. However, teaching assistants or teacher aides may, at the discretion of the District Superintendent, be required (as part of their regular duties) to provide supervision of cafeteria and busing.
