Common use of Paid Bereavement Leave Clause in Contracts

Paid Bereavement Leave. a) An Employee, who would otherwise have been at work, is entitled to not more than six (6) consecutively scheduled working days leave of absence with pay and benefits and with continued accumulation of vacation credits, starting no later than the 7th calendar day after the day of death, in the event of the death of his/her parent, spouse, child. b) An Employee, who would otherwise have been at work, is entitled to not more than five (5) consecutively scheduled working days leave of absence with pay and benefits with continued accumulation of vacation credits, starting no later than the 7th calendar day after the day of death, in the event of the death of his/her sibling, current spouse's parent, stepchild, stepparent, grandchild. c) An Employee, who would otherwise have been at work, is entitled to three (3) consecutively scheduled working days leave of absence with pay and benefits and with continued accumulation of vacation credits, starting no later than the 7th calendar day after the day of death, in the event of the death of his/her grandparent. d) Provided that no greater than six (6) bereavement days have been taken within the previous six (6) months (i.e. 182 days from the date of the last bereavement day), an Employee, who would otherwise have been at work, is entitled to one (1) scheduled working day leave of absence with pay and benefits and with continued accumulation of vacation credits, starting no later than the 7th calendar day after the day of death, in the event of the death of his/her aunt, uncle, niece, nephew. e) Documentation indicating the relationship of the Employee to the deceased individual may be required by the Employee's supervisor.
