Paid Bereavement Leave. EMPLOYEES shall be granted a leave with full pay in the event of the death of any member of the EMPLOYEE'S immediate family. The leave shall be for a period of three (3) days, and if Employee chooses and the time off is authorized by the Department Head, two additional days of the Employee's accrued sick leave may be taken. A total of five (5) days of bereavement leave is allowed if travel in excess of 400 miles is required. The immediate family for purposes of bereavement leave is defined as spouse, parent, grandparent, sister, brother, son, daughter, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, or any person living in the immediate household of the EMPLOYEE or where the EMPLOYEE maintains Power of Attorney or Executor of Estate over a family member, or any other special circumstance as approved by the City Manager.
