Personal Searches. A student’s person and/or personal effects (e.g. purse, book bag, etc.) may be searched whenever a school authority has reasonable suspicion to believe that the student is in possession of illegal or unauthorized materials. If a pat down search of a student’s person is conducted, it will be conducted in private by a school official of the same sex and with an adult witness present. If extreme emergency conditions require a more intrusive search of a student’s person, such a search may only be conducted in private by a school official of the same sex, with an adult witness of the same sex present, and only upon prior approval of the principal or one of his superiors, unless the health or safety of students will be endangered by the delay which might be caused by following these procedures.
Personal Searches. When the Administration forms a reasonable belief that an employee is in violation of the Article, the Administration may, with the presence of a representative from the Union, for purposes of detection, conduct an unannounced search of that employee’s personal effects and work area, including but not limited to lockers, desks, containers, purses, and bags.
Personal Searches. A student's person and/or personal effects (e.g. purse, book bag, etc.) may be searched by a school official whenever the official has reasonable suspicion to believe that the student has violated or is about to violate the law or a school rule and that the search will yield evidence of the violation. A personal search may include requiring a student to be scanned with a metal detector. A pat down search of a student may only be conducted if a school administrator has established a high level of reasonable suspicion that evidence will be found to corroborate suspicion that a law or school rule has been broken. If a pat down search of a student's person is conducted, it will be conducted in private by a school official of the same sex and with an adult witness of the same sex present. Strip searches may only be used when an extremely serious situation exists requiring immediate action. Such a search should be used only in the context of imminent threat of death or great bodily injury to a person or persons. If a strip search is necessary the school official should contact the appropriate law enforcement official, and the search should be conducted by a sworn law enforcement officer of the same sex, in the presence of a same sex adult witness. School officials may only conduct a strip search in cases where it is necessary to avoid the imminent threat of death or great bodily injury to the student or another person. If a strip search must be conducted by a school official, it must be by a same sex official with a same sex adult witness, and the school official must have the prior approval of the superintendent/ designee, unless the health or safety of the student is endangered by the delay.
Personal Searches. All belongings including the clothing being worn by the resident will be thoroughly checked for unsafe/prohibited items upon admission, when the resident returns from a pass or outings, or when items are brought in by family or friends. Your belongings are subject to search daily or at any time deemed necessary by staff. Residents will be asked at the beginning of the search process if there are any prohibited items that the staff member should be aware of.
