Common use of Probationary Appointment Clause in Contracts

Probationary Appointment. a) The purpose of a probationary period is mutual appraisal for the Employer and the candidate. Probation does not imply that permanent appointment will inevitably be granted. It does imply that the Employer will give serious consideration to such an appointment. Denial of permanent appointment does not necessarily imply incompetence or even dissatisfaction with the Librarian involved. b) The probationary period for a Librarian will normally be four (4) years. The period of probation may be reduced in certain appointments at the Librarian II, III or IV ranks, if the candidate has held such an appointment at another library, or if the candidate has successfully worked four (4) to six (6) years in another library. Such reduction shall be determined at the time of appointment.
