Professional Service Leave. 23.1.1 Where a Member is elected or appointed to an office in a provincial or national educational association, and where such association requests the University to grant either full-time or part-time leave of absence without pay for the Member, the University will make every reasonable effort to comply with the request.

Professional Service Leave. Nurses may be granted a leave of absence for the purpose of serving in the Peace Corps, VISTA, or other such teaching/nursing experience. Upon return from such leave, the nurse will receive outside experience credit based on the period of service. The nurse will not receive more total experience credit than allowed under Policy 4741 (A).
Professional Service Leave. SSP employees may be granted a leave of absence for the purpose of serving in the Peace Corps, VISTA, or other such teaching experience. Upon return from such leave, the SSP employee will receive outside experience credit based on the period of service. The SSP employee will not receive more total experience credit than allowed under Policy 4141.
Professional Service Leave. Definition: Leave for performing a professional service where contracted professional staff receive compensation (such as judging for a competition). The employee is to retain all remuneration received and is to pay the substitute and all other expenses. If remuneration received is not greater than the cost of the substitute, the employee will only reimburse the district the amount he/she received for the service rendered. Leave for this type of service will be granted by the administration only if the nature of the service performed is related to the employee’s present assignment with the district, has professional value and prestige, and the status of the school system is enhanced by having a member of its staff engaged in such an activity.
Professional Service Leave. A leave of absence of up to two (2) years will be granted to any teacher who joins the Peace Corps, Vista, the National Teacher Corps, the Commonwealth Service Corps, or who serves as an exchange teacher and is a fulltime participant in any such programs. Upon return from such leave, a teacher will be considered as if actively employed by the Committee during the leave and will be placed on the salary schedule at the level which would have been achieved if there had been no absence. If the teacher does not perform a teaching function while on such leave, the teacher will still obtain the above­ mentioned benefits unless such is specifically not recommended by the Superintendent to the Committee in writing.
