Recognized Holidays. (11.01) The following holidays are recognized: New Year's Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. When any of the aforementioned holidays falls on a Sunday it shall be observed on the day designated as the holiday. Recognized Holidays. If such a day off is not scheduled, the employee shall receive a further premium in the amount of one and one-half (1½) times the employee’s basic salary for a day in addition to basic salary for the week. 18.04 The Employer will endeavour to take into consideration the wishes of affected employees in the scheduling of lieu days. 18.05 The premiums set out in Article 18.03 will normally be paid in cash unless otherwise agreed between the employee and the Employer. 18.06 If a recognized holiday occurs during an employee’s vacation, he or she shall receive an extra day of vacation with vacation pay at his basic salary, an extra day’s pay computed at time and a half or an extra day off at a time mutually agreeable between the employee and his Bureau Chief. 18.07 An employee whose workday begins on Christmas Day shall receive two and one-half (2½) times basic pay for the work plus a lieu day under Article 18.03 (c). Although Christmas Eve is not a statutory holiday, an employee who are scheduled works a night shift on Christmas Eve shall receive two and one-half (2½) times basic salary for the work, but no lieu day. Recognized Holidays. (11.03) Employees who are required to work on a holiday shift shall be paid a minimum of a full day's pay at the rate of one and a half times their straight time rate in addition to their regular weekly salary. (11.03b) Employees who are required may bank up to work a maximum of five (5) alternate days off. These days may be taken in conjunction with scheduled rest days or vacation days where possible and must be taken within the fiscal year in which they were earned. If compensating time off is impractical to schedule by March 31st, of any year, the employee shall receive her regular rate of pay for all days banked. An employee will not be entitled to schedule a “banked stat” day on a holiday shift shall be paid day where another employee has requested a minimum of a full day's pay vacation day and has been denied. (c) Upon written request being submitted by the employee at least two (2) weeks prior to the Recognized Holiday being worked, and at the rate discretion of one and a half times their straight time rate in addition to their regular weekly salary. By mutual agreement with the Department HeadEmployer, the employee may choose equivalent apply for and receive the day’s regular pay for the Recognized Holiday instead of an alternate day off. 13.04 When a Recognized Holiday falls on a full time employee’s regular day off, she shall receive an alternate day off in lieu of all or part of the holiday premium pay and overtime pay specified above. (11.04b) An employee whose regular day off falls on a recognized holiday shall receive an additional day off at another date. It is understood that if an employee's regular day off and birthday both fall on a day designated as one of the nine other recognized holidays in Section 11.01, the employee Part time employees will receive two additional days off at another datetheir Income Protection and they will be paid for the Recognized Holiday in accordance with Article 13.02. (11.05) In a pay week which includes a recognized holiday, work on either or both of the scheduled days off shall be at the overtime rate in spite of the fact that the employee has worked only 4 scheduled days in the pay week (3 scheduled days if the employee's birthday occurs in the pay week) by reason of having the holiday off.
