28.01 The dance surface prior to the commencement of rehearsal or performance shall not be slippery or dirty.
28.02 A floor covering, if used, must be cleaned with detergent or appropriate solution.
28.03 The surface must be cleaned daily, in sufficient time prior to use. In rehearsals in which the Artist is required to do floor work, the floor shall be cleaned immediately prior to use.
28.04 The Engager shall endeavour to tour with the modular portable sprung floor for full company performances in venues where the repertoire and condition of the stage warrants its use and where get-in times available at the venue allow opportunity to lay the floor in conjunction with all other pre-production tasks.
28.05 The theatre, rehearsal hall, stage and wings of the stage, dressing rooms, in fact any space where the Dancers are required to rehearse or perform, shall have reached the minimum temperature specified in Rule 28.06 before the Dancers arrive at the theatre to take class, rehearse or perform. It is recognized that the amount of time needed between the turning on of the heating system and the air reaching the required minimum temperature will vary from theatre to theatre. However, minimum temperature in dressing rooms must be reached at least two (2) hours before curtain time.
28.06 Artists will not be required to rehearse or perform where temperature drops below eighteen degrees Celsius (18°C) or sixty-five degrees Fahrenheit (65°F), or exceeds thirty-two degrees Celsius (32°C) or eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit (88°F). This Rule applies to both indoor and outdoor situations. The governing temperature shall be that taken a half (1/2) hour prior to commencement of performance. If the temperature subsequently falls below eighteen degrees Celsius (18°C), leg warmers and such other warmer clothing as the Artist deems necessary may be worn during the performance. An announcement explaining the situation shall be made to the audience.
(A) When performing in outdoor theatres during inclement weather (cold temperature, rain, fog, dew), the Engager, the Communications Committee, and the deputies, will confer with a view to rescheduling works with warmer costumes. When the Engager schedules performances in outdoor theatres, the Engager will assure that ballets that utilize warmer costumes are easily available for substitution.

For any venue(s) where the Engager does not have direct control, the Engager agrees to use its best efforts to ensure that the following conditions for performances and rehearsals are met. When an Artist believes that there is a risk to their health and safety, the procedure described in Appendix C shall apply.

REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE CONDITIONS. The EMPLOYER agrees to take all responsible steps in an effort to obtain the following performance and rehearsal conditions:
(a) Prior to the commencement of rehearsals and performances, all stage and rehearsal spaces must be inspected by the Stage Manager and the AGMA delegate(s). These spaces must be mutually approved and not deemed dangerous by the AGMA delegate(s) and EMPLOYER representative.
(b) EMPLOYER will make best efforts to maintain the temperature at 72° Fahrenheit in all areas of scheduled Artist Activities. No ARTIST shall be required to rehearse or perform when the temperature drops below 67° Fahrenheit (19.4° Celsius) or exceeds 85° Fahrenheit (29.4° Celsius) in the place of rehearsal or performance. This guideline shall apply to changing rooms, fitting rooms, photographer studios and other locations in which the ARTIST must work.
(c) ARTISTS may use their discretion as to whether they wear warm-ups for rehearsal if the temperature is not maintained at 72° Fahrenheit.
(d) If AGMA receives complaints that the home theaters have not met the health and safety standards set forth in this Agreement, the EMPLOYER will give evidence to AGMA in writing that steps have been taken to eliminate the theater’s inadequacies.
(e) Crossovers must be sufficiently lighted and uncluttered so as to prevent accidents and facilitate quick crossovers.
