Relation of Accreditation to Program Approval. NYSED has sole responsibility for initial and continuing program registration consistent with NYS Education Law and Commissioner’s Regulations in granting program approval and registration. NYSED may utilize information generated from AAQEP’s Quality Assurance Review, including but not limited to AAQEP’s decision on accreditation and the assignment of any areas of concern. The following New York Codes, Rules and Regulations (NYCRR), Title 8 Chapter II will be applied by NYSED only for purposes of determining state approval and registration. These regulations include those that provide direct guidance for the registration of teacher education, educational leadership, and school counselor programs in New York State; and

Relation of Accreditation to Program Approval. All decisions for state approval of education preparation programs for each content or specialty area are within the sole authority of the HTSB. Decisions to approve or not approve provider programs are made independent of AAQEP determinations regarding accreditation of the provider. AAQEP acknowledges that the rules and standards that govern state approval of a provider and its programs in Hawaii are subject to change at any time by the HTSB. AAQEP’s process requires disaggregation of evidence by licensure and teaching field as well as by program site and/or mode of delivery. This allows for quality judgments to be made regarding each licensure program under the scope of accreditation. Quality assurance at the program level provides evidence for how AAQEP standards on candidate and completer performance are being met and facilitates comprehensive judgment of the set of programs put forward as a whole.

The decision to approve or not approve provider programs will be made independent of any AAQEP determinations regarding accreditation of the provider. All educator preparation programs leading to a California license, credential, or added authorization must be Commission approved. Any new programs that are proposed that would culminate in the recommendation for a California credential must complete the Commission’s Initial Program Approval process. Continued program approval is embedded in the Commission’s cycle of accreditation activities.
