Room Assignment / Selection. A. Assignment/selection of space is contingent upon the receipt of required application, properly signed contract, and paid application fee and applicable deposit(s). B. The University reserves the right to assign and/or reassign space for the benefit of the individual student and/or living unit, as well as University needs. C. A single room request may be revoked at any time if an overflow circumstance occurs. D. Students who lose a roommate or were not assigned a roommate may be given the option to contract for a single room when space permits. Should this option occur and be elected, students will be charged a single rate for remaining time left on the term of this Contract. Should space be available to grant a single room and the student does not elect a single room contract, the student is required to optimize by accepting the assignment/selection to another room or assignment/selection of another roommate. Failure to comply with the optimization policy will result in a charge to the student’s account for a single room and/or possible contract termination. Occupants with a vacancy in their room will be required to keep the rest of the room clear for a potential roommate. Roommates may be assigned without specific notice.

The $250 pre- payment and a signed Agreement need to be received to select (or be assigned) a room. New student is defined as someone who has never lived in WSU residence halls. Returning Student is defined as someone who has lived in WSU residence halls and would like to apply to live on campus again. Room selection for new students will be determined by the date the Housing Agreement and $250 pre-payment are submitted to WSU, whichever date is later. Students who submit their signed Housing Agreement and $250 pre-payment by May 1 will get to select their room on their Housing Portal during the room and meal plan selection process in May. Students who apply after May 1, or do not pick a room during room selection, will be assigned a room by the Housing Office after the initial room selection period has ended. No specific assignment based on a student’s preference is guaranteed. Failure to honor such requests is not a breach of this Agreement and will not void the Agreement. For specific roommates, both students must have a signed Agreement and have made the $250 pre-payment to create a roommate group. Roommate groups must be created and verified by May 1 in their Housing Portal. Students in a roommate group will receive the same time slot for room selection. Time slots for roommate groups are based on the average of the two students signed Agreement dates. The $250 pre-payment and signed Agreement need to be received by both students to select a room. Roommate groups are a maximum of two students. Priority room selection for returning students begins early October for students wanting to return the residence halls for the following year. Students can refer to the returning student room selection process outlined on the website. • WSU reserves the right to change your assignment for reasons of health, safety, need for repair services, vacancy consolidation, disciplinary sanctions, or unresolvable incompatibility of roommates. Returning upper-class students will select and confirm their room assignment during room sign-up for the following fall. Room selection for new students will be determined by the date the Housing Agreement and $250 pre-payment is submitted to WSU, whichever date is later. No specific assignment based upon student’s preference is guaranteed. Failure to honor such requests is not a breach of this Agreement and will not void the Agreement. For a specific roommate, both students must be confirmed by May 1st using the roommate matching tool in the online application. The $250 pre-payment and signed Agreement need to be received by both students in order to select a room. We reserve the right to change your assignment for reasons of health, safety, need for repair services, vacancy consolidation, disciplinary sanctions or unresolvable incompatibility of roommates. Unapproved room changes, failure to follow proper room change procedures, or your failure to properly complete a room change request will result in a $25 administrative fee, your required return back to your assigned space (if you moved improperly), and may result in the forfeiture of any future room change privileges.
