Common use of Sick Leave Procedure Clause in Contracts

Sick Leave Procedure. In order for employees to receive sick leave compensation, the procedures below will be followed: The employee must notify the immediate supervisor or designee at the work location of his/her absence within the first hour of work of the first day of absence unless conditions make notification impossible. The employee who has been absent five days or more and who has been notified that a substitute has been hired shall, at least one day prior to his/her expected return to work, notify his/her supervisor so that the employment of any substitute employee may be terminated. An employee absent for five working days or more may be required to present a physician's statement stating the nature of the illness or injury and the date the employee is able to return to work. The District will require verification of all absences if there is reason to know or suspect abuse of the personal illness and injury leave by an employee. Any such request for verification shall be preceded by a written explanation and warning from the District that the employee will be required to provide such certificate prior to any further sick leave usage.
