The Board shall make available in each school building a restroom, lavatory facility and room which shall be reserved for use as a faculty lounge and lunchroom in which no use of tobacco products will be permitted. The "ITV" room in the high school is to be used as a classroom. The faculty lounge/lunchroom shall be used only as a workroom for teachers. The lounge/lunchroom shall be made available for lunch to year-round school employees only. There shall be no structural modification of any kind in these lounges without the written permission of the Superintendent of Schools. Further, these rooms shall be open for inspection by the Administration at all times. Administration shall make every attempt to make available a computer and printer for professional staff use. D. Private school telephone facilities shall be made available to teachers for their reasonable use during working hours. Long distance calls shall not be made on these telephones unless one of the following conditions exist: 1. The phone call is credited to the Teacher’s personal credit card number. 2. The telephone call is credited to the Teacher’s home phone number. 3. The charge for the telephone call is transferred to the person who is being called (collect call). 4. The phone call is for student/parent contact. E. Adequate parking facilities shall be made available to teachers for their use with teachers required to use designated areas. F. Notwithstanding their employment, teachers shall be entitled to full rights of citizenship and no religious or political activities of any teacher or the lack thereof shall be grounds for any discipline or discrimination with respect to the professional employment of such teacher. The private and personal life of any teacher is not within the appropriate concern or attention of the Board; yet, if such teacher's personal activities impair his/her ability to teach, impairs the teacher-student relationship, or disrupts the educational process, it shall be a matter of concern of the Board and action commensurate with the facts may be undertaken. G. When in the opinion of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her delegated representative, it is necessary to close all schools, teachers will be notified through a telephone fanout that they will not be required to report for work. In the event that someone cannot be reached (such as disrupted telephone service), in no way will the school be responsible for any additional compensation to any employee. Administration and Association will agree to a (voluntary) fanout list and listing of radio and television stations to be used for each school year by October 1 of each school year. If all schools are closed by the Superintendent after classes have commenced, teachers will be permitted to leave after receiving permission from their Building Principal; except that teachers may not be retained beyond one (1) hour after dismissal of students by the Building Principal. 1. TEACHING CONDITIONS. A. It is acknowledged that the primary duty and responsibility of the bargaining unit member is to teach and the organization of the school and the school day should be directed at ensuring that the bargaining unit member is primarily utilized to this purpose. B. The Board agrees to continue its effort to keep class sizes at an acceptable number as dictated by the financial condition of the district, the building facilities available, the availability of qualified teachers and the best interest of the district as deemed administratively feasible. Any appreciable changes in past policy and practice relative to class size may be subject to the grievance procedure. C. For those bargaining unit members scheduled or authorized to travel between buildings, the Board shall reimburse mileage at the rate allowed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). These teachers shall be allowed sufficient time for commuting between buildings. This time shall be determined by the bargaining unit members involved and the administration at the beginning of each school year. This time shall not be considered "breaktime". D. TEACHING CONDITIONS. A. Provisions for separate lunch facilities along with a furnished lounge and/or work space and a lavatory for teachers' use will be made in all future buildings on a basis proportional to the number of teachers in each building. C. Adequate, regularly maintained parking lots shall be made available to the school staff for their use. Concrete or asphalt sidewalks shall be provided to extend from the lot to the building and such sidewalks will be maintained. Precautions will be made to protect staff vehicles from vandalism during the day. D. Since the Board, the Association and the teachers recognize the continued necessity for safety and welfare of students on the playground and that recesses are an integral part of the educational program, elementary teachers shall continue to supervise the students during recess. For grades 4 through 6, this recess period will be left to the agreement of the teachers and the principal. E. Teachers will not be responsible for the collection of monies. District approved online merchants will be used whenever possible. If the collection of monies is a necessity, the teacher and building administrator will meet to discuss the collection of monies following the established administrative guidelines. Further, the Board shall work toward limitation of other items with reference to the collection of monies. F. The Board shall endeavor to develop patterns of organization to equalize the student - teacher ratio between various buildings. Further, the Board shall review attendance boundaries considering the differences in growth patterns within the district each year in an attempt to equalize classroom teacher-student(s) ratio between various buildings. 1. In order to provide acceptable class size levels, the Board shall endeavor to maintain following class size limit recommendations: JK - 20 2 - 30 3-5 - 31 6-12 - Class Load Limit, 164* Recognizing the added responsibility involved in split grade assignments, the Board will reduce the size of split grade classes wherever possible. At the Elementary level, a stipend of $250 per semester will be paid for each student over the class load limit. A stipend of $50 will be paid per semester for each student over the class size limit to Elementary Specials teachers and $50 per semester for Secondary teachers over class load limit. Special Education Teachers and Speech and Language Pathologists shall be paid $250 per semester for each student over the caseload limit prorated to the date of initial overage. At the Secondary level, a stipend of $1,750 per semester shall be paid for large group instruction for a minimum of 25 students over the class load limit of 189 with a cap of 50 students over 214. *Exceptions to the Class Load Limit are vocal and instrumental music, physical education, and study halls. 2. In the event a class size or load exceeds the maximum or class size or load limit, then the teacher may conference with the principal. Each school shall make available in each school building a restroomhave adequate lunchroom, restroom and lavatory facility facilities for staff use and room at least one room, appropriately furnished, which shall be reserved for use as a faculty lounge and lunchroom in which no use of tobacco products will be permitted. The "ITV" room in the high school is to be used as a classroom. The faculty lounge/lunchroom room. G. Communication media shall be used only as a workroom for teachers. The lounge/lunchroom shall be made available for lunch to year-round school employees only. There shall be no structural modification of any kind in these lounges without the written permission of the Superintendent of Schools. Further, these rooms shall be open for inspection by the Administration at all times. Administration shall make every attempt to make available a computer and printer for professional staff use. D. Private school telephone facilities shall be made available to teachers for their reasonable use during working hourslocal use. Long distance calls The Board shall not be made on these telephones unless one required to incur any additional costs by virtue of the following conditions exist: 1. The phone call is credited to the Teacher’s personal credit card numberits compliance with this provision. 2. The telephone call is credited to the Teacher’s home phone number. 3. The charge for the telephone call is transferred to the person who is being called (collect call). 4. The phone call is for student/parent contact. E. H. Adequate parking facilities shall be made available to teachers teachers. I. When a situation arises whereby physical injury or harm confronts a student, the Association recognizes that it is the duty of the teacher to comply with reasonable requests of the Superintendent or his designated agent. J. No teacher shall be required to perform any school health service which, under the standards of acceptable and prevailing practice, requires the level of education, skill, and judgment required of a licensed health professional. K. Teachers set an example in dress and grooming for their use with teachers required students to use designated areas. F. Notwithstanding their employment, teachers shall be entitled follow. A teacher who understands this precept and adheres to full rights it enlarges the importance of citizenship and no religious or political activities of any teacher or the lack thereof shall be grounds for any discipline or discrimination with respect to the professional employment of such teacher. The private and personal life of any teacher is not within the appropriate concern or attention of the Board; yet, if such teacher's personal activities impair his/her ability to teachtask, impairs presents an image of dignity, and encourages respect for authority. These factors act in a positive manner toward the teacher-student relationship, or disrupts the educational process, it shall be a matter maintenance of concern of the Board and action commensurate with the facts may be undertaken. G. When in the opinion of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her delegated representative, it is necessary to close all schools, teachers will be notified through a telephone fanout that they will not be required to report for work. In the event that someone cannot be reached (such as disrupted telephone service), in no way will the school be responsible for any additional compensation to any employee. Administration and Association will agree to a (voluntary) fanout list and listing of radio and television stations to be used for each school year by October 1 of each school year. If all schools are closed by the Superintendent after classes have commenced, teachers will be permitted to leave after receiving permission from their Building Principal; except that teachers may not be retained beyond one (1) hour after dismissal of students by the Building Principaldiscipline. 1. Scheduled days of student instruction that are not held because of conditions not within the control of school authoritiesBe physically clean, neat, and which must be made up due to state mandate shall be made up as follows: The Superintendent and Association shall mutually agree upon make-up dates.well groomed; 2. In Dress in a manner consistent with their professional responsibilities (slacks, skirts, or dresses in traditional classroom settings, with the event there is exception of P.E.); 3. Dress in a change manner that communicates to students a pride in personal appearance; 4. Dress in a manner that does not cause damage to District property; 5. Be groomed in such a way that their hair style or dress does not disrupt the Michigan State School Aid Act wherein inclement weather days do not have to be made up, the language in Paragraph 1. above shall be void and the parties will abide by the language stipulated in Paragraph G. aboveeducational process nor cause a health or safety hazard.
