Teaching Locations. Bargaining unit members are employed to teach/work at a single college. However, the Federation encourages Bargaining Unit Members to work cooperatively with the Employer when the academic needs of the college system can most efficiently be met through voluntary acceptance of assignments at another college or location. No Bargaining Unit Member shall be required to teach/work at more than one college or at another location without his/her written consent. Bargaining unit members who teach/work at more than one college or at a location more than ten (10) miles from the home campus shall receive a five hundred dollars ($500.00) stipend per semester.
Teaching Locations. Definitions:
(a) All actual and reasonable transportation costs associated with “local” teaching (such as parking costs, bridge tickets, the standard university kilometre rate or local transportation, including taxis) will be borne by the University.
(b) No Faculty member shall be required to teach at the “primary campus” and in more than one “local” site on a single day. Classes shall be scheduled in a way to permit ample transition time between locations.
(c) Faculty members shall not be required to teach “off-site” courses if they have reasonable grounds for not so doing, but faculty members shall not unreasonably withhold consent. “Off- site” courses will only be scheduled following consultation with faculty.
(d) Faculty members teaching “off-site” Algoma University courses shall be reimbursed for all actual and reasonable costs of travel to and from the place of teaching, meals and accommodation if necessary. This reimbursement shall take the form of either the standard university kilometre rate, with rental vehicles used for extensive travel, or bus, train or plane ticket costs as appropriate.
(e) In addition to the expenses covered by the university for “off-site” teaching, members engaged in “off- site teaching” will be allowed to charge the expenses of one extra day and night – to be used at either end of their teaching duties, as reasonable considering distance involved. Consideration will be given on an individual basis to coverage of extraordinary child-care or elder-care expenses to a maximum of $50/day.
(f) See Article 35:08 for stipends associated with “off-site” delivery.
Teaching Locations. A. For faculty with an assigned on-campus office, the college will make a reasonable effort to assign classes at the teaching site where their office is located.
B. A faculty member will be reimbursed at the IRS-approved mileage expense reimbursement rate for one-way mileage expenses incurred in attending required department/division meetings at a location other than their assigned on-campus office. Should a faculty member be scheduled to teach classes (excluding overload) at a teaching site other than their assigned on-campus office location (or at a teaching site other than their typical hoteling office location) prior to and following a mandatory in-person department/division meeting, the faculty member will be reimbursed for round trip mileage expenses. Normally, other obligations that require the faculty member's attendance at the Des Plaines Campus will not be eligible for reimbursement; exceptions may be approved by the appropriate xxxx or designee in advance.
