Xxxxxxxxxxx and Family Illness. 1. Up to five (5) days per occurrence will be granted at full salary to each teaching employee for death in the immediate family. In cases of serious illness in the immediate family, five (5) days per occurrence with full pay will be granted. Serious illness is defined as illness generally requiring hospitalization. Immediate family is defined as the employee and spouse and their grandparent, father, mother, sister, brother, daughter, son and grandchild.

Xxxxxxxxxxx and Family Illness. Teachers shall be allowed five days at full pay for absence from school for each occurrence of death in the teacher's immediate family. Additional time up to five days, if requested by teacher, shall be first deducted from Personal Leave and then Sick Leave. Teachers shall be allowed three days absence for each occurrence of illness or accident that requires hospital attention of the teacher's immediate family only after all sick leave and personal leave have been used. The "immediate family" is defined as father, mother, sister, brother, spouse or domestic partner, children, grandparents, or grandchildren. This relationship may be by either affinity or consanguinity.

For the purpose of attending to problems arising from death or illness in the family, a teacher shall be entitled to five (5) days of leave with pay each year, accumulating to a maximum of fifteen (15) days. Time lost for death or illness in the family is deducted from the same pool of accumulated days. A teacher taking such leave shall notify his/her building principal or immediate supervisor in advance, except when an emergency prevents such advance notice.
