Supplemental Transportation definition

Supplemental Transportation means the safe and convenient transportation of any and all pupils or other authorized persons as may be requested by DISTRICT for field trips, excursions, athletic activities or any other purpose designated by DISTRICT both during and outside of normal school hours.

DISTRICT reserves the right to use other transportation providers for its Supplemental Transportation; provided, however, DISTRICT shall not be precluded from combining Supplemental Transportation with Basic Transportation when it is logical and feasible to do so. Contractor shall also provide transportation services to ensure the safety and welfare of all students and staff in case of a large-scale emergency or disaster. These transportation services shall establish and maintain bus availability pertinent to relocation of large numbers of students and staff in a compressed period of time. DISTRICT will designate a crisis management contact person for emergency contact with CONTRACTOR. Prior to the start of the school year, DISTRICT shall inform CONTRACTOR of the name(s) and contact telephone number(s) of crisis management contact(s). Contractor shall also provide enough personnel and expertise to be responsive to Springfield’s Railroad Relocation Project and the necessary routing changes associated to the road closures as this projected is completed in multiple phases over a number of years. Unless otherwise approved by DISTRICT, in writing, CONTRACTOR shall permit no person to ride a bus while performing services hereunder, except those pupils designated by DISTRICT as eligible, authorized DISTRICT personnel and CONTRACTOR'S personnel.

CONTRACTOR and DISTRICT shall use their best efforts to agree, prior to the start of the school year, upon the scheduled use of CONTRACTOR'S buses for Supplemental Transportation for scheduled athletic events (the "Supplemental Transportation Schedule"). If agreed to in writing, CONTRACTOR shall operate the Supplemental Transportation Schedule utilizing the fleet designated in the schedule, at the times and costs provided in the schedule. The Supplemental Transportation Schedule shall be attached hereto as Exhibit __ and incorporated herein by reference. Except as otherwise provided herein, it is understood that utilization of CONTRACTOR'S services for Supplemental Transportation shall be optional with DISTRICT and that DISTRICT and its individual schools shall be free to make other transportation arrangements if they so desire.
