Common use of Bereavement/Compassionate Leave Clause in Contracts

Bereavement/Compassionate Leave. Upon the death of a relative, an employee shall be granted a compassionate leave of up to five (5) working days, depending upon the time of bereavement in relation to the normal time off and the degree of relationship of the deceased, without loss of pay. A further two (2) days for traveling may be allowed at the discretion of the department head. Upon the written notification to the Assistant Superintendent – Human Resources and Administrative Services, the following bereavement leaves will be approved.
