Common use of Catastrophic Illness Clause in Contracts

Catastrophic Illness. During the period 3-years prior to the employee’s normal retirement date (attainment of 53rd birthday), if the employee is injured or ill for more than 50- consecutive calendar days but less than 6-calendar months, there will be no reduction from the employee’s sick leave accumulation. In order to be eligible for this benefit the employee must have reached 135 accumulated sick leave days at some point in his/her career, and the employee shall perform alternative duty if it is available and if the employee is capable of performing same.
