Chromebook Care. Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook that they have been issued by the school. General Precautions ● Students will not mark, deface or place stickers on the Chromebook. ● Food or drink should not be next to a Chromebook. ● Cords, cables, and removable storage devices must be inserted carefully into a Chromebook. ● Chromebooks and accessories should not be used or stored near pets. ● Power cords must not create a tripping hazard. ● Chromebooks must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, and labels. ● Heavy objects should never be placed on top of Chromebooks. ● Students shall never leave their Chromebooks unattended, nor should they be loaned to any other student. ● It is highly recommended that Chromebooks are kept in a protective case when transported to and from school. My Chromebook is damaged. What do I do? ● Chromebooks that are broken or fail to work properly must be taken to the library. Students must provide any information they may have as to why the device does not work properly. A loaner computer will then be given to the student until the issued Chromebook can be repaired. ● District-owned Chromebooks shall never be taken to an outside computer service for any type of repairs or maintenance. Students should not attempt to repair or disassemble any part of the Chromebook. ● Loss or theft of the Chromebook is also the student’s responsibility and may result in the student being charged and a police report being filed. ● Students may be responsible for the cost of repair for damage to devices due to damage or neglect. The decision to assess a charge, as well as the amount of any charge, is at the sole discretion of the District, but will not exceed the full replacement value of the Chromebook. ● Broken screens will be repaired by the district. The screen repair cost will be $50. Failure to take proper care of the Chromebook and power cord may result in disciplinary action and/or being charged up to the full replacement cost of the Chromebook. NOTE: Lost or stolen power cords will not be replaced but can be purchased by submitting a help desk ticket through the school library. Students should never leave their Chromebook unattended except locked in their hallway locker. If the Chromebook is damaged, lost, or stolen, the student is responsible for the reasonable cost of repair or for its fair market value on the date of loss. In addition, the student must also return both the Chromebook charger and any other accessories. Students will be held responsible for maintaining their individual Chromebooks and keeping them in good working order. ⚫ Chromebook batteries must be charged and ready for school each day. ⚫ Chromebooks that malfunction or are damaged must be reported to the administration. The school district will be responsible for repairing Chromebooks that malfunction. Chromebooks that have been damaged from student misuse, neglect or are intentionally damaged will be repaired with cost being borne by the student. Students will be responsible for the entire cost of repairs to Chromebooks that are intentionally damaged or lost. ⚫ Chromebook damage: Students may be responsible for all damage as circumstanceswarrant. ⚫ Chromebooks that are stolen must be reported immediately to the Eastchester Police Department (the police report must be submitted) and to school administration.

The cost to repair Chromebooks damaged through misuse or neglect will be borne by the student and/or parent. ● Chromebooks that are stolen must be reported immediately to the school’s main office, and the theft will also be reported to the Xxxxxxx Police Department. ● Chromebook must be kept in their case at all times in order to protect it from damage.

The student must report any case of theft, vandalism, accident, repairs needed, and/or any other issue with the Chromebook(s) working properly to the teacher as soon as possible. Students and parents/guardians agree that they will not attempt to repair the Chromebook(s). General Precautions ● No food or drink is allowed near the Chromebooks. ● Cords, cables, and removable storage devices must be inserted carefully into Chromebooks. ● Chromebooks should not be exposed to extreme temperatures (hot or cold). ● Chromebooks must remain free of any writing, drawing, or stickers. ● Heavy objects should never be placed on top of Chromebooks. ● Do not place the Chromebook on an uneven surface where it might accidentally fall. ● Do not block air flow when the Chromebook is on. While your Chromebook does not get overly hot as a traditional laptop might, it does need to breathe. ● Chromebooks shall not be used where a cord could be a tripping hazard (power cord, projector, etc.).

Students will be held responsible for maintaining their individual Chromebooks and keeping them in good working order. • Labels or stickers that are inappropriate or impermissible at school shall not be placed onto the Chromebook or protective case. • Chromebooks that malfunction or are damaged must be repaired by the parents/students promptly. • Any damage to Chromebooks must be reported immediately. A student with his/her Chromebook in need of repair may pick up a loaner Chromebook from the Technology Department for temporary use at school as long as such loaners are available. This temporary Chromebook may not be available for home use. • Chromebooks that are lost or stolen must be reported immediately to the Xxxx’x office.
