In addition to teacher expectations for Chromebook use, school messages, announcements, calendars and schedules may be accessed using the Chromebook. Students are responsible and expected to bring their Chromebook to all classes.
3.1 Chromebook Left at Home If students leave their Chromebook at home, they are responsible for getting the course work completed as if they had their Chromebook present. This may also result in a discipline consequence.

A student will pay the full replacement cost (including all components: charger, battery, and case) if it is lost or stolen. 4c: Charging your Chromebook ● Chromebooks must be brought to school each day fully charged. ● Students need to charge their Chromebooks each evening. ● Repeat violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action. ● Limited charging stations will be available for emergency use only. 4d: Backgrounds and Password ● Inappropriate media may not be used as a screensaver or background. ● Presence of guns, weapons, pornographic materials, inappropriate language, alcohol, drug, and gang related symbols or pictures will result in disciplinary actions. ● Take care to protect your password. Do not share your password. 4e: Sound ● Sound must be muted at all times unless permission is obtained from the teacher for instructional purposes. ● Headphones may be used at the discretion of the teacher. 4f: Printing ● Digital sharing of documents is encouraged, printing is discouraged. ● Students may use the Library Media Center printer with teacher's permission during class or with the permission of the Library Media Technology Specialist. ● Printing is done through Google Cloud Print. Some students may be required to take their Chromebook home each night throughout the school year for charging. Students need to charge their Chromebooks each evening. Chromebooks must be brought to school each day in a fully charged condition. Students should not carry the AC adapter power cord to school. If fully charged at home, the battery will last throughout the day.

If a student does not bring his/her Chromebook to school ● A student may stop by the technology department offices and check out a loaner for the day. ● Students borrowing a Chromebook must sign a loaner agreement and will be responsible for any damage to or loss of the issued device. ● The Technology Department will document the number of times a loaner is issued to each student for not having his/her own Chromebook at school and will send reports to the principal’s office for those students that have more than two occurrences during the school year. ● The Principal will treat such occurrences the same as coming to class unprepared, which may result in disciplinary action. ● The students that obtain a loaner will be responsible for returning the borrowed device to the office before 2:45p.m. on normal school. ● Late Fees of $5.00 for the first day and $1.00 for each subsequent school day will be assessed for students that fail to return a borrowed device.

Chromebooks being repaired ● Loaner Chromebooks may be issued to students when they leave their school issued Chromebook for repair. ● A student borrowing a Chromebook must sign a loaner agreement and will be responsible for any damage to or loss of the loaned device. ● Chromebooks on loan to students while having their devices repaired may be taken home. ● A member of the Tech Department or the Tech Support Intern will contact students when their devices are repaired and available to be picked up.

Inappropriate media may not be used as Chromebook backgrounds or themes. The presence of such media will result in disciplinary action. Students must remove any backgrounds or other media at the request of a teacher or school administrator. Students will be encouraged to digitally publish and share their work with their teachers and peers when appropriate. Students will still be able to print from desktop computers in computer labs, however, students will not be able to print directly from the Chromebooks at school.

Part of being prepared for school each day is having your Chromebook fully charged when you arrive at school. Students should follow their teachers’ instructions regarding when to bring the Chromebooks to class. If a student repeatedly fails to bring their Chromebook to school or fails to charge it adequately, normal discipline procedures will be followed for not being prepared for class and the Chromebook may be required to stay at school.

USING YOUR CHROMEBOOK AT SCHOOL. ● It is expected that Chromebooks will be fully charged every day. ● Because Chromebooks are District owned machines to be used for educational purposes, they will be monitored at school or at home. ● If the student’s Chromebook is missing or in repair, they will be issued a used Chromebook from the Main Office if they are available. These extra Chromebooks will not be allowed to be taken home. They will be required to be returned to the building's Main Office each day. ● All screensavers and backgrounds must be school appropriate. Images of guns, weapons, pornographic materials, inappropriate language, alcohol, drugs, or gang related symbols or pictures will result in disciplinary action. ● Students must keep their passwords confidential. In order to gain access to the District network, students should log in with their Dallas School District account. Students should only use their account. Use of another student’s account is prohibited under the District Acceptable Use Policy. Students should keep their sound muted unless a teacher gives permission for it to be on for instructional purposes. Students will be expected to have headphones or earbuds to use when sound is necessary for instructional purposes. Printing will not be allowed from Chromebooks. Students are to send documents electronically to their teachers to avoid unnecessary printing. ● Students need to save all files to the Google account in the cloud instead of locally on the device to ensure they will have access and that the files are not deleted if the Chromebook is in need of repair. ● If a student will be graduating or leaving the District and would like to transfer saved documents to another account, contact the Technology Department.
