Description of the Work Carried Out. The work performed at the FIOH focused on assessing the genotoxic and immunotoxic effects of the NFC materials. In vivo studies in mice were used to investigate both acute and subacute responses (24-h and 28-d follow up). For genotoxicity assessment in vivo, the comet assay was performed on lung cells and broncho- alveolar lavage (BAL) fluid cells and the micronucleus assay on bone marrow polychromatic erythrocytes, after single pharyngeal aspiration to female C57BL/6 mice (doses 10, 40, 80 and 200 μg/mouse). Inflammatory effects in vivo were assessed by investigating the influx of inflammatory cells in BAL, mRNA expression levels of relevant cytokines, and histopathological changes in lungs (doses 10 and 40 μg/mouse). These tests, together with in vitro testing performed with the same material under WP5, provide indication, whether the NFC materials studied are able to cause cellular damage or systemic effects. Our study provides new information about the toxicity of NFC and thereby contributes to the hazard assessment of these materials.

Description of the Work Carried Out. The ProSafe partners of T3.2, in particular JRC, have first proposed the adoption of ISA-TAB-Nano for streamlined nanoEHS experimental data recording within the large FP7 project NANoREG, where the system was adopted in March 2014. As set in the DoW of T3.2, the task leader has established a strong link with FP7 eNanoMapper right from the start of ProSafe. This has led to a positive collaboration between ProSafe WP3 and eNanoMapper (especially UMaastricht and IDEA) that has lasted for the whole duration of ProSafe. eNanoMapper was the 'technical implementation arm' of a streamlined data management strategy within the EU NanoSafety Cluster (NSC), to serve the data needs of any project in that arena. In its technical development of ISA-TAB-Nano tools for the NSC community, eNanoMapper received support from this ProSafe task 3.2. The task leader relayed on several occasions, such as bilateral JRC-UMaastricht/IDEA teleconferences, participation in eNM-promoted NSC meetings in 2016, monthly TC calls of the NanoSafety Cluster WG4 US-EU CoR meetings on databases, etc. the needs of the nanoEHS community, especially of the large project NANoREG, where it has been leading the ISA-TAB-Nano technical implementation. Around early 2016, it appeared that a sufficiently wide community in the NSC endorses the use of ISA-TAB-Nano, as a way to structure the collection of nanoEHS data, be it experimental or literature-based. For experimental data, the approach promoted by JRC in NANoREG for a 'keep I simple' version of ISA-TAB-Nano has been paying off. The US have shown marked interest for this strategy, for instance after the public release by JRC of the NANoREG templates1. Given its specifically dedicated role in the development of, among others, ISA-TAB-Nano, eNanoMapper has published recently a fully descriptive deliverable on this matter2.
Description of the Work Carried Out. Analytical task and sample preparation The analytical contract includes the determination of cerium in organic material (lung, lymph nodes (LALN)) after inhalation exposure (retention and clearance) in samples from the 28-day BASF CeO2-study as part of the UBA research project Z6-55410-31/8 (project code: 371261 206) and refers to studies for the GLP test "Assessment of chronic toxicity / carcinogenicity of selected nanomaterials" with the test number 05G12036 ITEM (subproject within the preliminary study, work package 1). The quantitative determination of the cerium content in the samples is performed after appropriate sample preparation using the ICP-MS. For sample preparation, the steps freeze-drying, plasma ashing and microwave digestion and dilution of the respective digestion solution are required. Freeze-drying The (roughly chopped) lung material (for already prepared LALN no further preparation is needed) is freeze-dried in aluminium trays (flat) initially ≥ 6 h (0.37 mbar). The body weights before and after freeze-drying are logged. Plasma ashing The freeze-dried material is then subjected of a plasma ashing (cool plasma conditions, 400 W, about 1 mbar O2) overnight (≥ 12 h), homogenized and transferred to appropriate storage vessels. The ash weight is if fully implemented, usually by> 12 h less than 5% of the original wet weight and can be used as a parameter for assessing the ashing quality. The logging of ash weights is required. Microwave digestion The freeze-dried and plasma ashed samples (each time the total amount of present sample) are finally subjected to microwave digestion. To effect complete digestion, the use of sulfuric acid (96%, suprapur) is required.   • DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKS Employer’s objectives The scope of the request includes the recommended monthly preventative, quarterly and annual maintenance that needs to be conducted to ensure all areas of the airports are lit and compliant. It will include all the other adhoc request (labor rates) where required upon approval by the maintenance manager. The compliance will be based on the following: • Maintenance as per OEM • Organizational guidelines and codes of practice • OHS act 93 – Occupational Health and Safety • ISO 9001 – Quality management • ISO 14001 – Environmental Management • SANS 10142 – The wiring code • ICAO Annex 14 chapter 5. • ACSA Maintenance Procedure D060 024M This scope entails the maintenance and repair of LV systems and all lighting at Costal airports. In brief, maintenance involves servicing, repairs, and testing of lights and LV systems. This involves carrying out maintenance on electrical equipment such as LV DBs, electrical plant, wiring enclosures and luminaires and associated control systems, portable appliances and other specific electrical equipment, in order to minimize downtime, and ensure that the equipment performs at optimal levels and functions to specification at the specified areas. Servicing - performing routine preventive maintenance as prescribed by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), ACSA’s planned maintenance routines, and applicable legal and design standards. Repairs – responding to breakdowns, callouts and restoring the equipment to safe working conditions on an as and when basis. Advisory – telephonically guiding airport electricians under emergency situations to ensure systems are safely shutdown or returned to service within stringent times. System Performance Test – Testing equipment performance against the OEM, ACSA, and statutory requirements for compliance and return to service purposes. Extent of the works The Contractor will be fully responsible for meeting all requirements in this document regarding the Works. For each piece of equipment, all work will be carried out to standards as required by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) as well as any applicable governing law and/or regulations. Where OEM standards differ from those required by this document the more stringent requirement shall apply. The Contractor will be fully responsible for obtaining (and keeping up to date with) said requirements. The proposed minimum scheduled maintenance activities can be found in annex H.
