Duration and Denunciation. 1. This Agreement shall remain in force for a period of twenty (20) years and shall be extended thereafter for the following twenty (20) year periods unless, one year before the expiration of the initial or any subsequent period, one Contracting Party notifies the other Contracting Party of its intention to denounce the Agreement. In that case, the notice of denunciation shall become effective by the expiration of current period of twenty (20) years.
2. In respect of investments made prior to the date when the notice of denunciation of this Agreement becomes effective, the provisions of this Agreement shall continue to be effective for a period of twenty (20) years from the date of denunciation of this Agreement.

3. The Contracting Parties agree that in the event of any Contracting Party becoming a member of the European Union, that Contracting Party will withdraw from this Agreement at the latest the day before membership takes effect and without any compensation to the other Contracting Party subject to the altered conditions of trade.

This Treaty shall be of a permanent nature and shall remain in force indefinitely, but any Party may denounce it by notifying the Secretary General of the Agency if, in the opinion of the denouncing State, there have arisen or may arise circumstances connected with the content of this Treaty or of the annexed Additional Protocols I and II which affect its supreme interests or the peace and security of one or more Contracting Parties.

2. This Agreement may be amended by mutual consent of the Contracting Parties.
