Extension of Sick Leave. (a) An employee with more than five (5) years of service who has exhausted his/her sick leave credits may be allowed in the event of illness, an extension of his/her sick leave to a maximum of fifteen (15) working days. This sick leave extension shall be repaid by the employee upon his/her return to duty from his/her normal monthly accumulation. (b) When an employee has used the maximum of sick leave which may be awarded to him/her in accordance with this agreement, he/she may elect, if he/she is still unfit to return to duty, to proceed on annual leave, including current and accumulated leave, if he/she is eligible to receive such leave and if not, on special leave without pay to a maximum of one (1) year unless a longer period is mutually agreed upon between the employee and the Employer. Medical certificates shall be submitted as required by the Employer.
