For Education Sessions a. Upon request of the Union, each Xxxxxxx shall be entitled to an unpaid leave of absence of two (2) consecutive days per year for the purpose of attending educational seminars sponsored by the Union, provided that the Employer receives at least six (6) weeks prior written notice. It is understood that the Union will not request such leave of absence for more than two (2) employees at a time.
b. An unpaid leave of absence may be granted to employees to attend professional and educational meetings, seminars, courses or other events which may be judged in the Employer's opinion to be beneficial to the employee's professional development.
i. Where employees are required by the Employer to take courses to upgrade or acquire new employment qualifications, the Employer will pay the tuition cost associated with such courses. If required by the Employer, an employee shall be entitled to a leave of absence with pay and without loss of seniority and benefits to write examinations to upgrade her employment qualifications.
ii. The General Manager may grant a request for an unpaid leave of absence of up to one (1) year to upgrade employment qualifications, provided that she receives at least six (6) months’ notice in writing and provided that such a leave may be arranged without undue inconvenience to the normal operations of the facility. Applicants, when applying, must indicate the date of departure and specific date of return. Employees may withdraw their request if not accepted for the course.
