Minimum and Maximum Hours Clause Samples
The Minimum and Maximum Hours clause sets clear boundaries on the number of hours an employee or contractor is expected or permitted to work within a given period, such as a week or month. Typically, it specifies a guaranteed minimum number of hours to ensure a baseline of work and income, while also capping the maximum hours to prevent overwork or excessive overtime. This clause provides predictability for both parties, helping employers manage staffing needs and costs, while protecting workers from underemployment or overwork.

Minimum and Maximum Hours a. A part-time employee may initiate a request in writing to work fewer hours then the minimum defined for their band in subclause (c) (iii) of this clause. If an employee requests and the employer approves the working of fewer hours than the minimum defined for the employee’s band, then the obligation to guarantee the midpoint is voided.
b. A part-time employee who makes a request under subclause (c) (iv) a may cancel this arrangement by advising of such in writing. The change will take affect from the next full roster cycle.
