Prescribed Burning. The DIVISION and the FPA will coordinate technical assistance for prescribed fires and fuels reduction projects. The DIVISION will provide burn resources at the discretion and amount requested of the FPA based upon availability. The DIVISION will only participate on FPA prescribed fires that have approved burn plans per NWCG standards. Prescribed burning costs are not eligible for reimbursement under the WFPP.
Prescribed Burning. Prior to performing any Prescribed Burning in the county, the Party undertaking such Prescribed Burning shall develop a prescribed fire plan. The Parties shall inform one another prior to performing Prescribed Burning. The Parties shall follow the Colorado Prescribed Fire Planning and Implementation Policy Guide for any Prescribed Burning in the county, unless the County has adopted guidelines or standards meeting or exceeding the standards enumerated in C.R.S. § 24-33.5-1217.5. DFPC may upon request, assist the County with personnel and resources for the purposes of prescribed burning planning, preparation, and/or implementation. The DFPC may enter into an agreement with the County and/or the Sheriff to provide Prescribed Burning services pursuant to C.R.S. § 24-33.5-1217(6)(a). All notices of Prescribed Burning shall meet or exceed the current DFPC guidelines and standards. At a minimum, the DFPC Battalion Chief and County Sheriff’s Office shall be notified.

Prescribed Burning. If possible, burn prairie plots every one to two years for the first five years after seeding if there is enough accumulated biomass to carry a burn, then every third year after that.

Ecological and landscape-level theory of late winter-early spring xxxxx is that the burn year’s burn unit (or patch) is lush green “right away” brood range (clean bare ground, then insects, and then high-nutrient green leaf material), the following year (or 2) the patch is then nesting habitat, and finally it is then fuel load again for a subsequent burn (considering a 4-5 year burn cycle). Prescribed Burning. Objective: Maintain and enhance pine and mixed pine - oak savannah/woodland/forest conditions by controlling understory cover of yaupon, eastern red cedar, and mesquite. Establish, enhance, and maintain a diverse assemblage of native grasses and forbs so as to provide optimal foraging habitat and movement corridors for the Houston toad.
