Railroad Involvement. There are two railroad crossings within the project limits. I-405, Union Pacific Railroad – Bolsa OH, Br #55-269, PM 17.21/17.24, City of Hun- tington Beach & SR-405, US Navy Railroad – Navy OH, Br #55-272, PM 18.36/18.39, City of Huntington Beach. No railroad involvement is necessary as there is no proposed work within 25 feet of any railroad track. However, an Office of Engineer Railroad Clearance Memo is required which contains railroad short clauses that must be inserted into the Specifications.
Railroad Involvement. Railroad right of way exists adjacent to southbound I-680 between PM 13.07 to PM 14.25. Temporary construction easements within operating railroad right of way are not anticipated as part of this project. A short clause will be added to the special provisions during the design phase notifying the contractor to keep clear of the railroad Right of Way. If construction activities take place within 25 feet of the centerline of the nearest rail, the railroad may require that a flagger be present. The project goes over operating Union Pacific Railroad at PM 15.9 and operating Bay Area Rapid Transit at PM 20.05. Existing median width on the structures is adequate and no widening would be required to accommodate the Project. Preliminary Engineering Review will be required for each railroad and the railroads may require that a flagger be present.
Railroad Involvement. Based on project advanced planning studies, NCC will span the full railroad right-of-way and provide standard horizontal and vertical clearances to tracks. Railroad horizontal and vertical clearances are a requirement by BNSF and Sierra Railroad and will be verified during final design. Coordination with Caltrans District Railroad Liaison Agent will be completed during final design to verify the status of railroad involvement. Coordination with the railroad companies, railroad operators and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will also occur during final design to determine the extent of the permits, applications and agreements required.
