RESIDENT IMPAIRMENT. KFH has adopted written policies regarding how the impairment of physicians and Residents, including, but not limited to, impairment due to substance abuse, shall be handled. A copy of such written policy shall be sent to Resident upon written request.

RESIDENT IMPAIRMENT. The Program recognizes the importance of preventing impairment through education, recognition of the impaired resident, and the counseling and rehabilitation of the impaired resident. Impaired resident and related allegations will be handled in accordance with the Handbook.
RESIDENT IMPAIRMENT. Any Resident who believes he/she may be impaired by physical or mental illness, substance abuse or any other impairment should, as a matter of professionalism, seek the assistance of the Resident Well-Being Committee. A Resident who is determined to be impaired during the GME program will be subject to the Graduate Medical Education Policy GMEC-23 "Physician Impairment and Substance Abuse", which is included on the LLUH One Portal. The Consortium is obligated under certain circumstances to report impairment that affects patient safety to the applicable professional training board (e.g. Medical Board of California, Osteopathic Medical Board of California, or Dental Board of California).

RESIDENT IMPAIRMENT. Resident work hours and on-call schedules will conform to the ACGME requirements. All Residents are expected to be rested, alert, and able to perform their essential duties with reasonable skill, efficiency, and safety to patients during work hours (either with or without a reasonable accommodation). Program faculty will determine whether a Resident is able to perform duties. A resident may be considered impaired because of the inability to practice medicine or perform the other essential functions of the job due to a physical or mental illness that cannot be remediated with reasonable accommodation, being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or for other reasons. By signing this Agreement, Resident represents to Hospital that they are not now impaired. Further, Resident agrees not to consume or be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while working or on-call for patient care delivery. At the Program Director’s sole discretion, a Resident deemed impaired by the Program Director, may be immediately dismissed from the program or options other than dismissal may be explored and offered.

RESIDENT IMPAIRMENT. Section 1: Commitment to a Drug Free/Alcohol Free Workplace All persons enrolled in UNM GME programs are responsible for ensuring that patient safety is maintained at all times. In addition, UNM and its affiliated hospitals are drug free and alcohol free campuses. This Physician Impairment Article is adopted pursuant to UNM Graduate Medical Education’s (GME) obligation to maintain a high standard of patient care and safety. HSOs are strongly encouraged to self-disclose impairments to their Program Directors and/or the Office of GME. No HSO will be disciplined or terminated for self-disclosing and seeking voluntary treatment. This disciplinary safe harbor does not extend to impairment or dependence discovered other than by self-disclosure, nor does it extend to discipline for conduct, behavior, actions, or omission while impaired or dependent. Investigation and disposition of an HSO suspected of impairment, including, but not limited to alcohol, drug, chemical dependence, medical, or psychological impairment are outlined in this Article and the “UNM Houseofficer’s and the University Regulation and Benefit Manual.”. If the HSO is rotating at an affiliated hospital, the HSO may be additionally subject to the policy and procedures of the affiliated hospital for impaired physicians.

RESIDENT IMPAIRMENT. If Resident is suspected of substance abuse or other impairment during his/her residency, HonorHealth will intervene and provide support in accordance with HonorHealth Policy RP1409 SLHN Resident and Fellow Impairment Institutional Policy and HonorHealth Policy HR1333 Substance Abuse as warranted.
