Over that 72-hour period, commercial motor vehicle inspectors throughout North America conducted inspections of commercial trucks and drivers with a focus on hours of service compliance. SAFETY FIRST. Officers shall not be required to operate an unsafe vehicle. In the event an officer believes that an assigned vehicle is unsafe, it shall be returned to the station and the officer shall immediately contact a supervisor and advise him/her of the mechanical defects. It shall be the responsibility of the supervisor to determine if the vehicle should continue to be operated or taken out of service.
