Overtime Cancellation. Where an employee is advised that they are required to work overtime and is not told within the last ½ an hour of his or her shift that they are not required for overtime, then they will be guaranteed at least one ½ hour of overtime pay.

Overtime Cancellation. An employee shall be entitled to four (4) hours of straight-time pay if the employee is instructed to work: (a) on a non-workday for that employee, or (b) on a holiday which that employee is entitled to have off, or (c) outside that employee’s regular work hours and if the District cancels the work and does not provide the employee with advance notice of the cancellation by the end of his or her last regularly scheduled workday prior to the beginning of the scheduled prearranged overtime. However, an employee shall not be entitled to any compensation if the District cancels the work due to safety concerns or the employee has not kept the District informed of a telephone number where he or she can be reached or where a message can be left.

LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING #4 – SCHEDULES‌ The parties discussed schedules at great length during negotiations and the need for the Employer to operate its business efficiently while ensuring that employees are able to maintain a personal/family life. The Employer agrees that a schedule that is supported by the employees who work it is the best business practice. The Union acknowledges that scheduling is complex and impacts employees in individual ways. Not more than once per month, and with a minimum of seven (7) days notice, the Unit Chairperson may request a meeting in writing with the Department Manager, or designate, to discuss Departmental scheduling. The Department will conduct a vote during the first week of September each year to allow full-time Security Officers to request that the current schedule be re-evaluated. Should the outcome of the vote be in favour of re-evaluating the schedule the Department will establish a Departmental Scheduling Committee and conduct a shift bid. It is understood that the Employer may still establish a Departmental Scheduling Committee as business needs arises.
Overtime Cancellation. The Department will notify an employee 12 hours prior to a scheduled overtime shift if his/her scheduled overtime shift is cancelled. Notification of an employee’s scheduled overtime shift cancellation will be accomplished via the text pager system and Department voice mail system. An employee is required to check his/her Department voice mail 12 hours prior to the scheduled overtime shift to check if the overtime shift is cancelled. When the scheduled overtime shift is cancelled by 12 hours prior to the overtime shift, the employee receives no compensation. When an employee’s scheduled overtime shift is cancelled less than 12 hours prior to the start of the overtime shift, the employee is entitled to two (2) hours of compensation at the overtime rate as described in Section 3.
