Shift Exchange on Short Notice. 36.4.5.1 Provided that a minimum of eight (8) hours' advance notice is given and with the approval of the Council, employees may exchange shifts. The employee who initiates the shift exchange, will be held responsible, in the event that either of the parties to the exchange fail to report for duty on the shifts concerned. It is understood that a shift exchange initiated by one or more employees will not result in an increase in cost to the Council and the Council is not to be held responsible for the repayment of shifts.
Shift Exchange on Short Notice. 36.3.4.1 Provided that a minimum of eight (8) hours' advance notice is given and with the approval of the Council, employees may exchange shifts. The employee who initiates the shift exchange, will be held responsible, in the event that either of the parties to the exchange fail to report for duty on the shifts concerned and will be subject to whatever disciplinary action, if any, the Council deems necessary under the circumstances.
36.3.4.2 It is understood that a shift exchange initiated by one or more employees will not result in an increase in cost to the Council and the Council is not to be held responsible for the repayment of shifts.
36.3.4.3 Every reasonable effort shall be made by the Council not to schedule the commencement of a shift within less than eight (8) hours of the completion of the employee's previous shift and to avoid excessive fluctuations in hours of work.
36.3.4.4 When during a twenty-eight (28) day shift schedule of work an employee, assigned to work on a rotating shift basis, is required by the Council to change his/her position on the schedule without five (5) calendar days notice in advance of the starting time of the change, and if the new starting time is at least four (4) hours earlier or later than the former scheduled starting time, the employee shall be paid for the first changed shift which he/she works at the rate of time and one-half. Subsequent shifts which the employee works as part of the change and the shifts worked upon his/her return to the original schedule shall be paid for at straight-time rate.
36.3.4.5 When during a twenty-eight (28) day shift schedule of work an employee, assigned to work on an irregular relief (maintenance) shift basis, is required by the Council to change position on the schedule without forty-eight (48) hours' notice in advance of the starting time of the change, the rate of compensation for the first changed shift shall be at time and one-half. Subsequent shifts which are part of the change and the shifts worked upon return to the original schedule shall be paid for at straight- time rate.
