Society Notification. OPG will discuss the circumstances with the local Society representative prior to hiring a temporary employee. The Society will be informed of the job skill needs, the salary classification for the position, the expected job duties, and the duration of the assignment. Prior to hiring a temporary employee for greater than 9 months, the IESO will post the position company wide and electronically for a minimum of 5 working days. Temporary employees will have their applications for vacancies considered in accordance with Article 62.6.3. Notwithstanding the above, the IESO may utilize a temporary employee for up to 36 months with the approval of the appropriate Society Unit Director.

If the position is advertised, and the temporary employee is not selected for the vacancy, the employee will be terminated.

Temporary employees will have their applications for vacancies considered in accordance with Clause 65.6.3.h with the following exception: the employer may, at its sole discretion, refuse to process and consider an application for a vacancy from a temporary employee up to but not including the last six months of the employee’s initial temporary assignment. This discretion is not subject to the grievance-arbitration procedure. Notwithstanding the above, Hydro One may utilize a temporary employee for up to 36 months with the approval of the appropriate Society representative.
