Special Appointments. The Board may elect such other officers as the affairs of the Association may require, each of whom shall hold office for such period, have such authority, and perform such duties as the Board may, from time to time, determine.
Special Appointments. Special appointments shall be for one (1) of four (4) purposes: (a) to bring to the university personnel with unusual knowledge, artistry or exceptional merit, (b) to replace a full-time member on leave, (c) emergency appointment prior to a successful affirmative action search, or (d) appointment to a temporary grant- or contract-funded position. A special appointment carries no expectation of renewal beyond the term specified but may be renewed or repeated provided that the total duration of the appointment shall not exceed two (2) of any six (6) years at a university in cases (a), (b) or (c). When a special appointment is renewed, service shall be deemed continuous. The letter of appointment shall specify the purpose for which the appointment is made and shall include the phrase, “this is a special appointment pursuant to the current collective bargaining agreement.” At the department’s option, members on special appointments may be evaluated following the schedule for 1st or 2nd year renewals, as is appropriate, up to and including Step “F” (except that the evaluations shall not include renewal recommendations).

Visiting Faculty refers to faculty members on leave from other institutions who do not receive BGSU salary, whose primary mission is to teach and/or pursue scholarly/creative activity during the period of appointment, and who are granted certain faculty rights and privileges (such as office space, laboratory access, or library access) to fulfill their mission. Such rights and privileges must be granted in writing and signed by the Xxxx, with the stipulation that none of the other provisions of this contract apply to those individuals.
2.5.2. Honorary titles including, but not limited to, Distinguished Teaching Professorships, Distinguished Research Professorships, Distinguished Professorships of the Arts, Distinguished University Professorships, or Trustee Professorships, shall all refer to special honorary recognitions of individual Bargaining Unit Faculty.
2.5.2.1. Awarding an individual BUFM one of these honorary titles does not replace, alter, or invalidate any or all of the rights and responsibilities of Bargaining Unit Faculty as articulated elsewhere in this Agreement.
2.5.2.2. The criteria and procedure for awarding an honorary title are given in Article 28.
2.5.3. Emeritus status refers to a special designation of the rank of a retired faculty member.
2.5.3.1. For BUFMs who earn emeritus status, the title “emeritus” shall precede the rank of the BUFM upon retirement, for example “emeritus associate professor.”
2.5.3.2. The criteria and procedure for designating emeritus status are given in Article 27.

Special Appointments. Where operational requirements permit, and upon reasonable advance notice in writing from the President the Employer will grant leave without pay to an employee working for the union on a special project of fixed duration, or to an employee working for the union on a temporary appointment. Special Appointments. The College may appoint teachers to positions that have a P-12 responsibility. The remuneration and release time for such positions will be determined by the Principal and will be commensurate with the College’s expectations of such a position.
