Common use of Substitute Teaching Clause in Contracts

Substitute Teaching. Any time a teacher substitute teaches beyond the normal 5 hour, 10 minute student contact time, the teacher shall receive additional pay. The pay shall be an amount equal to the portion of the absent teacher’s student load assigned to the substituting teacher. In addition, if a classroom is split between two or more classrooms when a substitute is unavailable, teachers shall each receive full day substitute pay. Secondary allied arts teachers who teach these larger classes shall receive substitute pay, pro-rated to the number of minutes the class lasts. Elementary allied arts teachers will receive ¼ of a full day substitute pay per class. Payment for substituting during a teacher's prep time shall be the hourly rate that matches the teacher's lane placement as listed in Appendix C. A teacher shall not be required to substitute teach more than twice per month. An elementary licensed staff pulled from their assigned duty to cover a classroom for the day will receive the sub daily rate of pay in addition to their daily pay. An elementary licensed staff pulled from their assigned duty to cover a classroom for a half day or less will receive half the sub daily rate of pay in addition to their daily pay. A secondary licensed staff pulled from their assigned duty to cover a classroom for a single period shall be the hourly rate that matches the teacher’s lane placement as listed in Appendix C.
