SUBSTITUTES FOR TEACHERS. The practice of using a regular teacher as a substitute is undesirable and shall not be permitted. This does not prohibit the infrequent assigning of a teacher to a class or duty because of an emergency, the sudden illness of a staff member, the pending arrival of a substitute or other good cause. There shall be no loss of sick time for any day when a teacher is sent home by the school nurse or administration because of illness, provided classes are covered by a regular teacher where no substitute is needed or in such cases where the department head and/or principal report that the required work for the day has been completed. This does not apply when a teacher is absent for a full day.

SUBSTITUTES FOR TEACHERS. ESPs who are certified as a substitute teacher may internally substitute for a certified employee and receive the first call substitute teacher rate of pay or his/her regular rate of pay, whichever is higher. No ESP shall be required to provide substitute service. Such ESP may be requested to substitute for a teacher in his/her building in an emergency situation or when other substitutes are unattainable.

Teachers shall notify the principal or designee a.m. by 6:30 a.m. of the day of the absence. The teacher shall state the reason for the absence. 2. In case it is impossible to secure a substitute, teachers with time available will be asked to teach at a rate of $20/hour. Time will be calculated to the nearest quarter hour based on time worked, not start and stop time. In lieu of the pay, teachers who sub may choose to accumulate compensatory time in a ratio of one dash of comp time for 1 period of subbing. After accumulating seven (7) periods of comp time, it shall be the equivalent of one instructional school day. (See also Article 26.A.2. for details) 4. In no case will any class be left unsupervised when the regular teacher is off the school grounds. B. Teachers will have written lesson plans on their desks by the start of school on any day that they are unable to work. These lesson plans will be sufficient in detail so that a substitute teacher will be able to carry on classroom activities appropriate for the scheduled class. C. At the completion of each day's service by a substitute teacher, he/she will complete, in duplicate, the Substitute Teacher’s Report Form. One copy will be given to the administrator, and the second copy placed in the teacher's mailbox.

SUBSTITUTES FOR TEACHERS. Paraprofessionals who are licensed as a substitute teacher may internally substitute for a licensed employee and receive the substitute teacher rate of pay or his/her regular rate of pay, whichever is higher. Such Paraprofessional may be requested to substitute for a teacher in his/her building in an emergency situation or when other substitutes are unattainable including placement of an otherwise unattended class in an area with only said aide.

  • Substitute Teachers 21.01 A substitute teacher is employed by the Division either to replace a regular teacher or fulfill an assignment which is less than twenty (20) consecutive days in duration. 21.02 Upon commencement of the sixth (6th) day of substitute teaching in the same assignment, a substitute teacher shall be paid for each day taught at the per diem rate (to be calculated as 1/x of the salary to which a teacher of the same qualifications and experience would be entitled under the basic salary schedule of the current collective agreement, where x equals the number of days in the current school year). The Association shall indemnify and save harmless the Division from any and all losses, costs, liabilities or expenses suffered or sustained by the Division as a result of any claim or legal action arising from the deduction of local Association fees or Manitoba Teachers’ Society Fees. 21.05 A substitute teacher who has been employed for at least nine (9) consecutive days of substitute teaching in the same assignment in a school year shall be entitled to one (1) day of sick leave with pay for each nine (9) days taught in that assignment. Sick leave shall not accumulate from assignment to assignment. The use of sick leave with pay shall not constitute an interruption of the substitute teaching assignment. 21.06 If a substitute teacher is absent from a period of substitute teaching on account of bereavement leave granted in accordance with Board practice or policy, and that substitute teacher returns to the same substitute teaching assignment immediately following the period of bereavement, the period of leave shall not constitute an interruption of the substitute teaching assignment. 21.07 The provisions of the Collective Agreement do not apply to substitute teachers except as expressly provided for in Article 21 – Substitute Teachers: Article 1 – Obligation To Act Fairly Article 2 – Purpose
