Support for New Teachers. Unit members who have not taught at least one 26 year in the last ten years, in or out of the Districts, shall be defined as new teachers.

Support for New Teachers. (a) It is the responsibility of the individual Level 1 teacher to achieve accreditation or registration at the level of proficient teacher within the required timeframes. The employer will support the Level 1 teacher to obtain accreditation or registration at the proficient teacher standard, which will include reasonable release from ordinary duties for the Level 1 teacher where operationally practicable. (b) If a Level 1 teacher has concerns regarding the support being provided by the employer, they should discuss the matter with the employer. If the matter remains unresolved, the matter may be dealt with in accordance with the dispute resolution clause.
Support for New Teachers. The SEA and the District have a shared interest in supporting new teachers who are also provisional employees by protecting their time and assuring that their assignment is appropriate to their novice status. The SEA will support the District in assuring that: 41.7.1 There will be no pressure to advise clubs, coach, serve on committees or be the SEA building representative. New teachers will not be prevented from choosing to take on additional responsibilities, but the guiding culture will encourage new teachers to work on their professional practice and professional certification. 41.7.2 New teachers will be protected, where possible, from moving from room to room during the day. This does not apply to program driven room assignments. 41.7.3 New teachers, where possible, will not be assigned to elementary “splits.” 41.7.4 A menu of rich curriculum training will be available from which they will select according to their self determined need. 41.7.5 New teachers will be given every consideration in teaching assignment and room assignment.

D.8.3 If a Level 1 teacher or their “mentor” has concerns regarding the support being provided by the employer, they should discuss the matter with the employer. If the matter remains unresolved, the matter may be dealt with in accordance with clause 9.
