Common use of Temporary Full-Time Clause in Contracts

Temporary Full-Time. A temporary full-time employee is someone who is engaged to perform a fixed term or task on a full-time basis. Such fixed terms or tasks will be greater than three (3) months in length, and will not normally exceed an eighteen (18) month period, unless the parties agree otherwise in writing. For the purpose of back filling pregnancy/parental leave only, the period will be twenty (20) months. At the end of the fixed term or task the employee shall revert to her/his former status. When an employee accepts such an assignment she/he shall not be considered for another temporary assignment if accepting such assignment will require her/him to leave her/his current assignment before the end of the fixed term or task. Such an employee is to be treated as a regular part-time employee for all purposes under the collective agreement. Notwithstanding the above, where the position is filled by an existing employee, the incumbent retains her/his previous “status” while filling the temporary position.
